The Southwest is supposed to be a division you can sum up in a sentence. We don’t do that here. We go team by team, win total by win total, and ask the only question that matters for NBA over/unders: how does this roster actually get there, and what has to break right for it to happen?
We start in New Orleans, where the Pelicans’ number isn’t really about talent, it’s about structure. Zion Williamson can still tilt a game, but spacing, rim protection, and 65-game availability hang over everything. From there we zoom in on the real pivot points: Jeremiah Fears and Derrick Queen as developmental bets, Trey Murphy III as the guy with non-theoretical trade value, and new coach Jamal Mosley trying to drag a shaky defense toward respectability.
Then it’s Memphis with a hard reset and a clear new face. Cameron Boozer looks like the “safe pick” who still pops, and we lay out why that alone can push the Grizzlies past their win total if the supporting cast holds up. Dallas turns into a timeline debate with Cooper Flagg as the future and Kyrie Irving as the present, plus the uncomfortable truth that “playing well” might make Kyrie more tradable. Houston brings the tension: Kevin Durant still scores like a machine, but chemistry questions and leadership additions like Fred VanVleet and Marcus Smart shape the ceiling. And we close with San Antonio, where Wemby is inevitable, but that four-guard lineup has us sweating the 60.5.
