[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Continues to get better and better and we can go on from there
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: With that being said let's go ahead and get into this podcast
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: We are going to first concentrate. I told you that we were going to do the pre camp
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_00]: observations and the top 25 under 20 25 and under series
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: now
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna start with the Warriors. We're gonna talk about
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: What's going on with them? We're gonna talk about all of
[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: What we are looking for before camp and then as we get into the season
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: So let's start here the Golden State Warriors have had an eventful offseason and with training camp just around the corner
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: There's lots of impact from Steph Curry's continued brilliance
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and the evolving role of Draymond Green Jonathan Kaminga and
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Wiggins and then also let's integrate the new faces. Shall we?
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Buddy Hield is on this team. Kyle Anderson is on this team and
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Dan the Melton is also on this team. So basically what we're gonna do we're gonna break it all down
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: We got some cool insights from some of the insiders who also watch a lot of basketball
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I do and then we're gonna come up with some assumptions and maybe some burning questions
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: That lead us into camp for the Golden State Warriors. So
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Buckle up and let's get going
[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: First and foremost where we have to start off at
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Steph Curry, I mean first of all a brilliant
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: metal round for Steph
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: We can caveat right?
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He he definitely went off in the metal rounds he showed up when he needed to show up it was
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: vintage Steph Curry
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Hitting a barrage of three-pointers from all different angles distances and what-have-you
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't matter if there was one guy on them tight soft two guys on them. It didn't matter
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_00]: He was still shooting at that. It was really clear
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: To us right that the old guys were holding it down
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Which then brings us to this
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: If Steph Curry is still at this level and we have been maybe hinting that it was starting to
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's push him off into the sunset type of situation
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: With this performance in the Olympics does this kind of change her mind and should this change the mind of the Golden State Warriors?
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we're gonna get into what they've done and we're gonna talk about some of the things that they tried to do and
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: What-have-you, but right now we're gonna focus on Steph Curry
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Steph Curry remains to be the heartbeat of the Warriors
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Coming off another stellar season where he led the team in scoring. He averaged
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: 29.8 points per game. He shot
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: 42.7% from three he played in 74 games which is the highest since
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: 2016 2017
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: So those are the championship years
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But the front office has done has the front office done enough to support him as he approaches his 36th birthday
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna get into all that
[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get into some of the moves and what-have-you, but let's get in
[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's break down a couple other things about Steph
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: He also averaged six point five assists a game last year and he averaged five point three
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Rebounds a game and the reason why I bring that up is because in
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: 2016 and 2017 what we what we thought of Steph was that he was this
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Long-range assassin which that was absolutely true
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: But that's what we considered him
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: His game has evolved his game has changed and you can see it in the stats when you see his rebounding
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_00]: At five point three he knew that he was a smaller team last year and Steph has worked on his body as
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_00]: He's matured and as he's aged where the shot is still pure
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But he's added some muscle
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: He's added some strength to his game where he can go down there with the big boys and get five rebounds a game
[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So it is a testament to his work ethic. It's a testament to saying okay
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna pick different nuances of my game to really focus on to get better
[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And he saw that there was a deficiency with his team last year where they were smaller and he needed to be more aggressive
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And staying back and trying to get rebound you always like to see that from your top player that it's like
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: What does the team need from me? Yeah, I'm gonna shoot it. I'm gonna do my thing. But what else can I do?
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And Steph finds that
[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_00]: now
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Zach low step says this step curry continues to defy age
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: his off-ball movement shooting and
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Playmaking are still elite, but the Warriors need to
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Relieve of relieve some of the burden on him
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: If they want to maximize his late crime
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: now
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: this has been a
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Bone a contention bone a contention in Golden State for a while now what to do with Steph Curry and how to
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Integrate around Steph Curry a couple years ago. Obviously we had the baby Warriors
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: We had James Wiseman who was like the second overall pick in the draft. He was
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Picked over LaMelo. He was picked over Tyrese Halliburton
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We can go on and on with some of the mistakes that were made but we're beyond that now
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The other thing is this is that we brought in Jonathan Kamenga and Moses Moody and people like this and then the advent of
[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Potsen ski who will get into a little bit later and also trace
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Jackson Davis who came on to the scene last year. Well, it's really a real finite
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: chemistry
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Experiment that's going on in San Francisco
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: How can you make your team successful?
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: How can you develop the young players where they're getting the necessary reps to get them to the point where?
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Steph can trust them
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Now how many games are you willing to lose to get to that point? Are you able to keep your veteran?
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Stabilized and I mean that stabilized because remember Draymond who will get to momentarily and
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Steph how do you stabilize these guys while you go through the growing pains of young players playing?
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So these are all things that Zach is talking about Logan Murdoch who's been real locked in
[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: with
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_00]: The Golden State Warriors for a long period of time. This is what he said Curry is is the Warriors
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Security blanket, but he can't do it all by himself
[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_00]: The front office has to give him more help if they want to make another deep playoff run
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: An executive said this about Curry Curry's ability to remain a top five player at his age is remarkable
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a sense around the league that the Warriors need to be aggressive in
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_00]: acquiring another score
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: now
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_00]: This leads us to what they did try to do in the offseason or
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what they did try to do
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about some of the things they did
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_00]: But what they did try to do is so we kept on hearing
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of these rumors out of Utah out of Salt Lake City that lowering market in
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Was some here somewhere in the crosshairs of the Golden State Warriors now
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: From someone that my digging around and some of the just astute reporting that has been done
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_00]: By the Anthony Slaters of the world and Logan Murdoch and people like this
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_00]: What I can tell is that there were preliminary conversations with Utah
[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: There were names bandied about
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But as soon as it got to Brandon Ponzierski or it got to Jonathan Kaminka
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden State was out
[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: so again
[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: We talk about when we hear some of these rumors and always start jumping to conclusions like oh this is going on
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: That's going on. This is going on. We probably need to pump our brakes a little bit
[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: We probably need to go ahead and just assess the situation
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Did somebody really go out and put this offer out there or was it something that was?
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, theoretically what it what would it take to get lawyer marketed and when you start to hear
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Multiple first-round picks and it's gonna take this clear and this player you start to go. Okay, but Laurie marketing is really good
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You can help this team immensely right now
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: But if I'm taking this guy and I'm taking this guy from my team what?
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: How much is it a net gain at the end of the day?
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And is that net gain gonna put you into the position of actually competing in the West?
[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they probably looked at the the chemistry situation and went nah this probably doesn't work for us and
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: This is how things fall apart
[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_00]: this is how things get misconstrued when we talk about deals in the media and
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a victim of it too. I put it out there as well
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: but when we do get a little more information and we start to find out that it really wasn't as close as
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: The two-week period where we start we heard Golden State attached to Laurie marketing as much as we did
[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Right. Let's talk about Draymond Green and let's talk about Jonathan Kaminga and Andrew Wiggins the warrior supporting cast
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Right, it's gonna be crucial this season Draymond Green Jonathan Kaminga Andrew Wiggins playing pivotal roles
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: each of these players face unique challenges and
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Expectations let's start with Draymond Green
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: last year
[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_00]: stats wise eight and a half points a game seven point two rebounds a game and six point nine
[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Assist again. This is what Jonathan Govoni has said Draymond Green
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Draymond's leadership in his defensive IQ remains invaluable
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But there are concerns about his durability and how much longer he can't anchor this defense
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Our guy Zach Harker from the athletic chimes in
[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Draymond Green is a is the glue that holds this team together his chemistry with Curry is
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: unmatched but his offensive
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_00]: limitations means that the Warriors need to get
[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Creative to maximize their roster Draymond Green for the second time in two seasons
[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Caused nothing but chaos with inside his own team
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_00]: So there's been two years in a row where there's been some sort of self-sabotage gone on with Draymond
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_00]: We had the Jordan pool situation last year. We had just he went WWE on a couple guys
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_00]: He's punching dudes
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Choking dudes out. It's a mess
[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_00]: the Warriors
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_00]: finished like what
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: 47 and 35 last year. So if Draymond
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't miss those 25 games. Let's say Draymond misses
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_00]: five of those 25 he plays
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_00]: 20 of those games. What's the record of the Golden State Warriors is
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Is the dynasty in in such a dire strait as we believe it to be or is it simply?
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Draymond needs to play with some control chaos and some controlled
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_00]: fury and
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: not
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Let it boil over into just
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_00]: stupid fouls stupid technicals getting suspended
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Blowing up at teammates and making a complete mountain over over a molehill now
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I will say this they're still very small Draymond is
[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He has to be on the court for them to be effective he is their tough guy
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he is Curry's
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Security blanket. He is his protector. He is his bouncer
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of it's a lot of hot hats that Draymond carries not just
[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_00]: offense of initiation, it's not just that
[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not just his
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Cerebral play on the defensive and then getting everybody in the right positions and what-have-you
[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not just that he is literally like if Curry gets foul hard
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh that Draymond is gonna be the first one there and there's gonna be some retribution somewhere and
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_00]: That's just how it is
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You I'm gonna stand up for my guy
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_00]: No matter what I might get in trouble, but I'm stand up for my guy
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_00]: But he needs to find a way to be able to do those type of things and balance and put himself in a position
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Where he can go ahead and play somewhere in the range of 68 to 72 games
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_00]: For the Warriors to have any chance in the West this year
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So don't play stupid Draymond
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't do it. I know you got your own podcast. I know you like content
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I got my own podcast, but I'm not playing it in the NBA. I'm not doing that. That's you
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So handle your business accordingly
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You know I'm saying your mama didn't raise no fool
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Get this money and stop getting suspended. Let's move on to the Jonathan Kamiga now. This guy is the most
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Boom bust guy of this group that we're gonna talk about and what I mean by that is that
[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying he's a bust. What I'm saying is is that
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_00]: This year could be a year where he takes a another nice size leap
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_00]: because of opportunities and also because he has really found himself in this offense or
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_00]: we could have Jonathan Kamiga complaining about getting shots or
[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Going out into the media talking about Steve Kerr doesn't know how to develop him. We could have just so a range of
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Outcomes with Jonathan Kamiga, but let's get to his stats
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_00]: 16.1 points per game
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_00]: 4.8 rebounds a game 2.2 assists a game Jonathan Kamiga is also gonna show up in our
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_00]: later part of this series of the top
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: 2525 and under so we don't have a lot of Jonathan Kamiga today
[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Development is one of the most exciting storylines for the Warriors if he can improve his shooting
[00:19:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Consistency and his decision-making he could be a star
[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer chimes in
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Kamiga has all the physical tools to be a dominant two-way player
[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_00]: This season will be a critical one for his growth last year
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga for
[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_00]: The first time basically spoke up about his career
[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm not saying he went about it the wrong way. I'm not saying he went about it the right way
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: what I am saying is that
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga got a front-row seat to the whole James Weisman
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Experience now. I do understand that James Weisman
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Completely different animal than Jonathan Kamiga
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_00]: They are not apples to apples
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_00]: So before you start jumping like you're spitting out your coke or whatever you're drinking right now
[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Understand that I do not compare these two as equal
[00:20:11] now
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga sees the James Weisman situation goes on he sees the injuries
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_00]: He sees the in and out of playing time the lack of playing time
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Going to the G League all of these things and then eventually sees James Weisman get traded
[00:20:30] now
[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Kamiga has followed a little bit of a similar past less injuries
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_00]: 100% a
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_00]: lot more production
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_00]: 100%
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_00]: What he's seen himself be be pulled in and out of the lineup depending on
[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_00]: The whims of Steve Kerr and what he felt he needed at that particular time
[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's wrong right or indifferent Steve Kerr has been the coach of that Golden State Warriors team
[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Throughout their championship run
[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So we got to give him somewhat of the benefit of the doubt
[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Even though there are things that you can most definitely question like not allowing
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga who has a tremendous amount of upside to play through the mistakes
[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_00]: understand that
[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_00]: The quicker we develop him
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The quicker we can pair him can pair him
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_00]: With Steph Curry and I didn't mean compare him can pair him
[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_00]: If it's that situation and that's what you're trying to do
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You got to allow him to play through his mistakes and Kerr
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't do that so we can check that box and say hey, there's a mistake here
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I will not sit here and go Steve Kerr is
[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Immaculate and never had an issue with his coaching won't say that but I
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_00]: do give him more of the benefit of the doubt because of the trophies and
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Getting that last championship in 2022
[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_00]: With that all being said
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga goes into this year has to know that it really you are
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably the second option. We're gonna talk about the next guy and
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_00]: The hell if we will know but
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga has a great opportunity to be the guy who's getting 18 to 20 shots again
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Right behind Steph Curry
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_00]: again
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Wasserman said it it's gonna come down to his shooting
[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Consistency and it's gonna come down to his decision making on both ends of the court
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_00]: You can't have lapses on defense now
[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Dreyman's presence or his
[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe his frequency of presence will help that and
[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we see the leap that we thought
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_00]: We were gonna see again. We talked about development and it's not linear. It's not like okay first year
[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna do this second year. He's gonna go up three more points couple more rebounds and assists. It's not like that
[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's playing time. Sometimes light comes on at different times for younger players. It's a it's a mixed bag
[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_00]: But this year is a critical year for Jonathan Kamiga if he really wants to be one of those dudes when you say, okay
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden State has this dude this dude in this dude and he's one of those three guys. Let's move on
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_00]: to another guy
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's been a complete?
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Enigma for two years and that's Andrew Wiggins. Let's get some of the stats out the way first
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: 17.3 points per game five rebounds a game and two point three assists again
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_00]: This is what John Hollinger had to say about Andrew Wiggins
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Wiggins had an up-and-down season particularly after returning from his personal leave
[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_00]: The Warriors need him to be more consistent, especially on the defensive end to contend in the West
[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And here is what an anonymous scout told me
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Wiggins is the key
[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Swing player for the Warriors if he can get back to his all-star form
[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_00]: It takes a lot of pressure off Curry and this is what we're talking about the battle
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_00]: for number two
[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Klay Thompson is no longer a Golden State Warrior for a lot of Warriors fans. It's bittersweet
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_00]: In one respect you're going man, I hate to see him go but
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_00]: If he was going like
[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_00]: He was going like just
[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Insist to be like a number two on this team or whatever the case may be
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Or just because of his status on the team
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_00]: some of the younger players weren't gonna defer to him or
[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna do we're going to defer to him. I can understand just
[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_00]: It's is not cool that Klay Thompson is not on Golden State, but it's also cool because
[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Now you can start making clear choices on
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Who deserves the second most shots on this team now? Andrew Wiggins is also
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_00]: might been in a sense
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You can say kind of
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Dicked around a little bit too, right?
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Because of who Klay is because of his status with the Warriors and what he has meant to that franchise
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe
[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Wiggins is looking at it. Hey 2022
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really important to what you're doing to win this actual championship and
[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You give me this money and you're telling me my role is
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Still like in a tertiary type of situation
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You gotta understand there's egos at play in every organization
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that the personal leave had anything to do with that
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna even get into some of the rumors out there about that
[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But here's the one thing that we need to find out about Andrew Wiggins
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_00]: was the 2022 push just for the money and
[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_00]: We're not gonna see this do this that do in 2022 until the last year of your contract that is going on right now
[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_00]: or
[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you have some sort of professional pride?
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_00]: To stave off
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kamiga as the number two option
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Because there's gonna be some variance with Jonathan Kamiga
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Where if Andrew Wiggins has his head turned on has his head locked in straight
[00:27:00] [SPEAKER_00]: There's gonna be a little less variance
[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I know what he is if he's aggressive on the boards if he's that guy who can play on that
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Defensive end and be aggressive and have intentionality on that side of the ball
[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Create turnovers and get on the break. It'll help his offense. It'll help his confidence and it will help
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_00]: The Golden State Warriors be able to stave off
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of the stuff that is going to L them because they are still a very small team
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: So those are the things that are we are looking at with basically the core
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into some of the younger guys and some of the new guys
[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about the new addition so we talked about marketing not coming to
[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden State and he's still with Utah, but they did make some additions though
[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Your warriors were made some intriguing moves in the free and free agency bringing in Buddy Hill Kyle
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Anderson and D Anthony Melton these additions
[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Could be pivotal to addressing some of the team's glaring needs last season
[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with Buddy Hill if you remember when all these deals went down we had our free agency
[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Specials and what have you we talked about that in a sense the these three guys replaced clay Thompson and
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_00]: As we go through it
[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll reiterate again. So let's get to buddy Hill last year. He was 16.8 points a game
[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_00]: He was also
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_00]: 4.8 rebounds a game and 3.1 assists a game
[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He shot 42 and a half percent from three this dude is just a sniper
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin O'Connor
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Hilled is one of the most
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_00]: consistent three-point shooters in the league and his ability to space the floor is invaluable for the Warriors
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_00]: He's perfect for their for the he's a perfect fit for their system
[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_00]: He's absolutely right
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're thinking about clay Thompson and what he was he was a volume three-point shooter that can shoot
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: on them off off
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Movement buddy Hill basically feels the role of clay Thompson's shooting
[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Ability now is he is dead. I is clay Thompson not gonna say that but are they closer as far as three-point?
[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_00]: shooters now
[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably maybe with buddy Hill getting a slight edge one
[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_00]: NBA executive said this replacing clay Thompson with healed is a move that makes sense. He'll may not
[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Have Thompson's pedigree, but he's younger and brings similar shooting touch
[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_00]: All these things are true I agree with all these things and
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_00]: The other thing again, he is the shooter that you're he's replacing clay shooting now
[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Move on to Kyle Anderson. So Kyle Anderson comes over from the Minnesota Timberwolves who made a long playoff run
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And Kyle Anderson is just one of those real cool
[00:30:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Bench guys role guys who just makes winning plays so Kyle Anderson stats last year
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_00]: 9.4 points a game
[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_00]: 5.3 rebounds a game and 4.2 assists again
[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_00]: John Hollinger said this while Kyle Anderson
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Anderson's versatility is his greatest asset
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_00]: He can handle the ball facilitate the offense and guard multiple positions in the warrior system
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_00]: His high IQ his high basketball IQ will be a huge plus
[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and
[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Then Zach Lowe said this
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Anderson may not be flashy player
[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_00]: but his ability to make smart decisions and play multiple roles could
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Make him a crucial piece off the bench for the Warriors
[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_00]: so
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Anderson represents the size that you lost with Klay Thompson and he also you gain size
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Because Kyle Anderson is 6-9 legit
[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_00]: now
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_00]: his defensive ways that he's able to help are
[00:31:20] [SPEAKER_00]: because of his smarts and because of just his basketball know-how
[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he's not a great athlete or whatever, but
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_00]: He will
[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Continue to run the offense the way it needs to be run. So whatever it is
[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever his principality in the actual offensive philosophy is he's going to do it and he's gonna do it at a stellar level
[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Then he's gonna give you some of the intangibles
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He's going to take some charges. He's going to be able to have deflections
[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_00]: because of his length and
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: also
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: he's going to have some steals because of the fact that he's long and then the other thing is that his
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Anticipation on the defensive side when he's able to roll a roam off of his man
[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_00]: It his his instincts really good
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_00]: so I think they got a really good player and a really good glue guy for the bench and
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Will just understand his role to an absolute tee
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we move on to D Anthony Melton
[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Now D Anthony Melton played last year in Philadelphia if you remember D Anthony Melton
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_00]: scored ten point seven points per game
[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He averaged four point one rebounds a game and two point eight assists a game and one point six steals
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the game as well
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Lord Logan Murdoch said this about Melton Melton defensive tenacity and his ability to knock down threes
[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Make him a valuable addition to the Warriors backcourt
[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_00]: He'll be a he'll be a key. He'll be a key in providing depth energy
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Especially on the defensive end an NBA coach said this
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Melton has a knack for making big plays on both ends of the floor his fit with the Warriors
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Uptempo style should be a seamless one
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_00]: so what you get with D Anthony Melton is
[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Multi-profile he is the defense that clay
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_00]: used to be
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so clay last couple years. This is where some of the also the drop off with the
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden State Warriors has been right
[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: We had the situation with the ACL and the Achilles back-to-back years and
[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He lost a lot of explosion and remember clay Thompson used to be a a one
[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Type of defender. This is a all defensive type of guy
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_00]: so when he lost his explosion lost his quickness and then some of the confidence start to
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Play in on it and then just all the stuff started to weigh on this dude
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually happy that he's in Dallas for this reason is that hopefully he can take a deep breath and go
[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this is what I can do
[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna focus in on these things
[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna allow my
[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_00]: basketball smarts to take over and
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_00]: He can get back to somewhat of what clay used to be but D Anthony Melton that defensive pressure
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_00]: That he can put on ball
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_00]: He's the type of guy he was in Memphis and he they would bring him in
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_00]: after John Moran and sometimes they would play him with John and the
[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Chaos that those dudes caused on the court was amazing
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And then he went to Philadelphia
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_00]: played his role expertly there got hurt those back injury and
[00:35:00] [SPEAKER_00]: there goes but
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_00]: If he's able to be healthy one and play the type of defense that he has been able to play throughout his career
[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_00]: This is over the last couple years. This is a huge upgrade for the Warriors
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_00]: 100% so I love this
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I love everything about it and that's how you replace clay Thompson you replace him with three dudes
[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_00]: That's how you replace a future Hall of Famer with three guys
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And they did it very expertly so shout out to
[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Mike Dunleavy jr. And a Kurt Laco and then the fourth
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Situation that we need to kind of talk about with them is the young core. Okay, we're gonna talk about Brandon Podzinski pods
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Moses Moody and Trey Jackson David the Warriors young core will be under
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00]: The spotlight this season Brandon Pazinski Moses Moody and trees Jackson Davis
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Represent the future and how quickly they can contribute will be invited pods had a pretty good rookie year
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_00]: He was all rookie first team. He did all the things that we saw in Santa Clara
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_00]: He shot the ball. He had terrific feel he was able to fit in seamlessly
[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_00]: with the Gold State Warriors and
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_00]: When they actually started him you can see there was a little more juice a little more life to the team
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_00]: offensively now
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: He was able to rebound his position at such an excellent level
[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is something that he did in college
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So it was a translatable skill and we did get to see it. It was on full display
[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_00]: For us to see during last season
[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_00]: He shot the ball again pretty well
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We think this is going to continue
[00:36:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I think as it puts a little more strength on the legs a little more shot mechanic tweaks here and there
[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's gonna find his rhythm and I think he's going to be nothing but additive. I am
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Sterling things to say about Brandon Kwasinski
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that he's just been just who you couldn't knocked it out the park more with this
[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Particular pick now as far as what his ceiling is concerned. I don't know
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna I'm not sitting here to tell you right now. I know this is what he's gonna be
[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go down. Let's go back to some of the pre-draft and rookie season expectations
[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So Kwasinski is a high basketball IQ guy his shooting and playmaking ability are his calling cards
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_00]: This is Wasserman
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Kwasinski is one of the most underrated picks in the draft and his ability to shoot and
[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Make plays off the dribble
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Will be a key for the Warriors in their second unit
[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But we saw it on the second unit and also on the first unit due to injury and just due to
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Steve Kerr trying to find that
[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Just to unlock that offense. It was just issues last year, but
[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Kwasinski made his mark because he did make the offense seem a
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Lot easier and I think his ability to be able to play off Draymond and Steph and
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Whomever is going to start next to those three guys, I think
[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Kwasinski has got to be one of the guys. Oh Curry, you know Draymond then who is it gonna be?
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it gonna be Wiggins?
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it gonna be Kaminka? Who's gonna start at center?
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Are we starting Draymond at center and just putting Wiggins and Kaminka in there and just
[00:38:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Go with a really athletic and try to guard people and really go up against them and bump up against them. Who knows?
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But Kwasinski is a key to this situation
[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we're gonna move on to Moses Moody. Now Moses Moody has had an up-and-down situation with the Warriors
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he was another player that was identified as a player who had issues with Steve Kerr and
[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Also his developmental path now Moody averaged 8.2 points a game
[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_00]: 3.1 rebounds and one and a half assists again
[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin O'Connor on Moses Moody Moody's development curve has been slow but steady
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_00]: His three and D potential is something the Warriors are banking on especially with their need for wing deck
[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy that needs to show more
[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_00]: This year he's getting jacked around in and out of the lineup as well and really I don't understand why I don't
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Know what it is that he's not giving
[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_00]: To Steve Kerr to allow him to have consistent 16 to 20 minutes
[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I would think that somebody who could who has a possibility of shooting
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_00]: 40% from 3 be able to play point-and-attack defense very well and also with the long arms be able to
[00:40:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Attack passing lanes and get deflections or what-have-you. So I don't get it personally
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope that this year is the year where we do
[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_00]: consistently see Moses Moody and
[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_00]: It really will be up to Steve Kerr
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_00]: This is one of those anomalies and one of those things where you just
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Wonder if a change of scenery would really help Moses Moody
[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_00]: The last guy on this list is a Trace Jackson Davis. He was a revelation last year
[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He came in he seemed to fit in very well the couple things that he
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_00]: That surprised me where his ability to pass from the nail
[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_00]: his ability to
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Short-roll to the basket and also provide those interior passes that are really hard to do and
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_00]: usually you don't see that on somebody as young as
[00:41:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Trace Jackson Davis, but we saw that in his repertoire. We saw high energy
[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_00]: We saw an ability to be a ferocious rebounder
[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_00]: The ability to block shots and also the ability to switch out on the perimeter
[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We saw those things from Trace Jackson Davis
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_00]: now if he can duplicate that into this year and
[00:41:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe with a little more opportunity up the rebounding up the scoring
[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_00]: then by all means
[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Gold State has a player and has a big
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Really live body big that they've been looking for so I hope that these these gains
[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_00]: continue for our guy
[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_00]: TJD to the Warriors and talk about what their overall situations gonna look like
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's really gonna come down to what Wiggins and what can be and
[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_00]: What they can potentially be here some quotes from Zach Low
[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_00]: The Warriors are still in the conversation, but the margin for error is slimmer than ever
[00:42:12] [SPEAKER_00]: They need everything to go right from health to development of their young players
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: This will Hollinger a sand their offseason moves were solid but not spectacular
[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Without an elite scorer. It's hard to see them as a top-tier contender and
[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Then Logan Murdoch chant chimes in with this the season feels like a crossroads for the Gold State Warriors
[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_00]: They're not rebuilding, but they're not also quite the powerhouse
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_00]: They once were a lot will depend on how quickly their young players can contribute
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, the Warriors will find themselves to me in a transition year period with Curry still playing at an elite level
[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_00]: There's pressure on the front office and the coaching staff and the supporting cast to step up whether
[00:43:05] [SPEAKER_00]: they can strike the right balance between winning now and
[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_00]: building for the future only
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Will only sit here and be the spotlight that we're gonna be looking at early in the year because this will again
[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kaminka to me if they're not
[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Their ability to score efficiently and with some sort of ease and
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Albeit it comes down to the defense
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Because if you can get these guys on the open court
[00:43:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It allows their game to just flow better so how much intentionality can you have on the defensive side of the ball?
[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_00]: How much improvement can you expect from Brad and Ponzi ski on Trace Jackson Davis and Moses Moody and
[00:43:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Can Steph Curry which I'm gonna go ahead and say
[00:43:59] [SPEAKER_00]: With a pretty confident. Yes
[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: yes, Steph Curry is still one of those dudes right and
[00:44:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Again can Draymond Green
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on to his sanity and be able to play 68 to 72 games
[00:44:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Because those are the type of things
[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_00]: They all have to happen
[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_00]: To make the Golden State Warriors
[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_00]: To be a faint
[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Contender in the West not even a real contender a faint one a lot has to go, right?
[00:44:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Everything has to go right there wasn't a really impactful trade that was available to them. Maybe that will change during the season
[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Usually if you do make that in impact trade during the season
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_00]: The usually you don't get the results that the Dallas Mavericks got last year
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what's out there and we'll see what they can do with what they have right now
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is going to be a tough road because
[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Memphis is gonna be healthy New Orleans is going to get better because if you have not seen it
[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Zion Williamson is in incredible shape like he might be thinner
[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_00]: now than he's ever been in the NBA and
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_00]: That's super scary for the rest of us. The Warriors are really gonna have to lean on their
[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Experience their continuity in their championship category. They're gonna have to get a stellar performance from Curry this year
[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_00]: It will have to be out of this world
[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Draymond Green will have to bounce back to his all defensive ways and
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Be able to cut out all the shenanigans and is Andrew Wiggins gonna show up for work
[00:45:47] [SPEAKER_00]: You know saying I'm gonna ask that question right now Andrew. Are you gonna show up for work? My god?
[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you gonna quiet quit?
[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you gonna show up and then for Jonathan Kaminka basically is again
[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Development is not linear. We hope that
[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kaminka it all clicks and he makes that leap where he I've assumed the number two role
[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna score efficiently. I can knock down the three-point shot at a pretty good level
[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't have to be 40% this year if he can knock it down at 37 percent
[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_00]: That'd be great and he's willing to take six to seven in game and he's able to rebound and play with some defense
[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Intentionality, that's what it's gonna come down to and you don't get any of those things. Guess what?
[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna be a playing team again
[00:46:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So enjoy the plan
[00:46:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Basically unless something drastic happens, but that's where I see the Golden State Warriors this year
[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough haul for our guy Steph Curry because we think he deserves better
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: We think that somebody of Steph's
[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_00]: pedigree
[00:47:00] [SPEAKER_00]: should
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Be given every chance to make
[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Deep playoff runs every single year in his late prime. That's where we go with that
[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we continue our series of top 25
[00:47:16] [SPEAKER_00]: 25 and under
[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about this because these next these next batch of guys that we're gonna talk about are guys that we are really
[00:47:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Looking forward to what they're gonna do this season one
[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_00]: We just talked about but here's another guy that I'm really interested in and it's kind of in the same vein as
[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_00]: our guy Jonathan Kaminka who will get back to momentarily but
[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The guy that I want to talk about right now is number 22 on this list
[00:47:48] [SPEAKER_00]: It is Benedict Matheran from the Indiana Pacers the explosive young guard at 6-6
[00:47:56] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a scorer from Montreal Canada. He played his college ball at Arizona before being selected six overall
[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_00]: in the 2022 draft known for his scoring prowess
[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Matheran has been one of the most dynamic players in his draft class
[00:48:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Here is his pre-draft scouting port Matheran
[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Was heralded as a natural scorer with a strong build and the ability to create his own shot scouts were
[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_00]: enamored with his confidence in his
[00:48:31] [SPEAKER_00]: offensive versatility
[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But noted that his playmaking and his defensive consistency needed work
[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He is projected to be a high-level scorer with the potential to develop into a primary
[00:48:45] [SPEAKER_00]: offensive weapon
[00:48:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Here is a draft a note from the no ceilings guys
[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Matheran scoring ability and his confidence are standout traits
[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_00]: He's got the potential to be a go-to scorer in the league. Now let's move to present day
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what has all shook out so far
[00:49:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Matheran has quickly established himself as one of the Pacers key players averaging 16.7 points a game
[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_00]: 4.4 rebounds a game and 2.1 assists again
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_00]: He's shooting 45% from the field. He has shown flashes of brilliance particularly in clutch moments
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, he had a torn laboring that sidelined him for the latter part last season
[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Before the injury he was a front-runner for six man of the year award
[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_00]: His advanced stats reflect the player who is not just a scorer was someone who can impact the game in various ways
[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Here's a current
[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_00]: scouting
[00:49:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Evaluations on our guy Benedict Matheran Benedict Matheran is a natural born scorer his ability to create his own shot is
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_00]: impressive for somebody so young that's from our guy Zach Lowe an
[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_00]: NBA executive chimed in Matheran has the tools to be a star in
[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_00]: This league his work ethic and his ability to score at all three levels are already there
[00:50:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So somebody's seeing some serious development in our guy
[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_00]: One NBA NBA scout chimed in Matheran ceiling as a primary scorer is high
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But he'll need to round out his game particularly on the defensive end
[00:50:24] [SPEAKER_00]: To truly reach his Cree drag comparisons of someone like Devin Booker. I don't think he's ever
[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Going to be Devin Booker
[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin O'Connor says if Matheran continues on this trajectory
[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He can easily surpass expectations and become a cornerstone for the Pacers
[00:50:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Here's the thing. It was a bummer that he tore his labrum
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Missing that time and missing the playoffs missing that run in the playoffs and who knows
[00:50:59] [SPEAKER_00]: What they would have looked like does does the Knicks series go seven games?
[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, but this year is a really important year for our guy. Let's look at this total you got miles Turner
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_00]: You also have Pascal Siakam
[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's gonna start at that small forward position?
[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Looks like Andrew Nimhart has found his way into the starting lineup and we also know
[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Terry Southerburton is going to be there can be a consistent
[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Defensive player be able to use his athleticism use his physicality to stay in front of his
[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Defensive assignment he could start in this league
[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_00]: It's whether he wants to or not and I'm not trying to
[00:51:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Not trying to be mean to him it's not that what it is is
[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Young players it takes time for the defensive side of the ball
[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_00]: To develop because they are more worried about their offense
[00:52:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Because offense gets you more dollars, right?
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Now if Carlisle can coax a more well-rounded game out of Matheran
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: We're we're gonna be really looking at Indiana in a different light
[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_00]: They were not healthy last year and they made the Eastern Conference Finals and I'm not saying listen
[00:52:27] [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have some
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Fortunate situations go their way last year
[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I understand that and the East might be even tougher than it was last year. I can concede that as well
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: but in Matheran is really about to take another league and
[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Be able to stay on the court for
[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_00]: 32 minutes because the defense has played itself into that
[00:52:52] [SPEAKER_00]: You talk offensive versatility and you talk about who to guard. Well, he got Tyrese Halliburton on the court
[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and you got Pascal Siakam on the court and
[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Miles Turner is there and Ben Matheran and then Andrew Nimhar can knock down a shot as well
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Who are you slacking off of to
[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Allow to give help to Tyrese Halliburton and Pascal Siakam. So we look forward to a
[00:53:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Huge chunk of development for our guy Benendik Matheran
[00:53:26] [SPEAKER_00]: We hope that this year is the year where he can stay healthy and we also hope that that six man of the year
[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Turns into that my guy started so that would be helpful as well
[00:53:39] [SPEAKER_00]: We are going to move on to number 21 and number 21 might be a little controversial but
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_00]: we're gonna go ahead and give it to our guy Walker Kessler the
[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Second year or now he going into his third year out of you. Well, he was not out of Utah
[00:53:58] [SPEAKER_00]: He played for Augurum, but he plays the Utah Jazz now
[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Kessler defensive stalwart
[00:54:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Kessler's
[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_00]: seven-footer from Atlanta, Georgia originally drafted
[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_00]: 22nd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded to the Utah Jazz
[00:54:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Kessler played his college ball at North Carolina and
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Augurum where he was a shot his shot blocking ability made him a standout
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_00]: His pre draft scouting report Kessler's
[00:54:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Was widely regarded as the best shot blocker in this draft class
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Scouts loved his timing and his defensive instincts which made him a natural rim protector
[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_00]: However, there were concerns about his offensive game his mobility
[00:54:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Particularly how he'd fare against quicker more versatile bigs in the NBA
[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_00]: draft a note by John Hollander
[00:54:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Kessler's shot blocking ability is a lead. He's got the potential to be one of the best defensive big men in the league
[00:55:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And now let's talk about president day development his first year
[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It was all the things that we saw in college
[00:55:13] [SPEAKER_00]: second year
[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: They played him less. I think there were a couple injuries
[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But then there was just some something happening where he just wasn't getting time. So let's talk about a little bit
[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_00]: In his second season Kessler is averaging eight point one points a game
[00:55:31] [SPEAKER_00]: 7.5 rebounds a game and an impressive 2.4 blocks per game
[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_00]: He's shooting it at sixty five percent point four percent from the field
[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_00]: showcasing his efficiency around the basket Kessler's impact on the defensive end is
[00:55:48] [SPEAKER_00]: undeniable
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: With his defensive rating that places him among the league's elite
[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Shot blockers his mobility and his offensive game are still developing but his ability
[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_00]: To alter shots and anchor the defense is already at a high level
[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Jay Kyle Mann says this Walker Kessler impact on defense is already huge
[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a problem for opposing offenses for years to come and here is what one NBA coach told us
[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_00]: He's one of those rare bigs who doesn't just block shots he changes the way teams attack the paint
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_00]: You want that and this is the development outlook for Kessler
[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_00]: This is what one executives told us Kessler has a clear path of becoming one of the top defensive centers in the league
[00:56:45] [SPEAKER_00]: His offensive game is improving but his defensive presence alone could make him an all-star in the future
[00:56:53] [SPEAKER_00]: This is what Kevin O'Connor said
[00:56:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Kessler might not have the offensive versatility of someone like Rudy go there
[00:57:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But his shot blocking and his rebounding already put him in a similar defensive tier
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_00]: So again, we talked about how the second year there was some issues about
[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Roll and he didn't start and there was a little time where he started and they went back to the bench and
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Now there are rumors that there were talks that he wasn't available
[00:57:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Early on in the offseason now, there's talks that he is available
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all over the map will walk Kessler. Here's the one thing that I can tell you
[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a young big that has great defensive instincts not just
[00:57:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Good defensive instinct great defensive instincts and
[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_00]: If you can get him to set stout picks
[00:57:56] [SPEAKER_00]: You know not moving but you know stout picks and roll hard to the basket every single time
[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_00]: He that's his role. That's his role in the NBA roll to the basket hard every single time set good picks
[00:58:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Rebound the basketball block shots dog. It is it doesn't get too much easier than this
[00:58:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And he can do this and the thing about it is is will he get the playing time to do it?
[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Will he get the playing time in Utah or will Utah trade him?
[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_00]: These are all questions that need to be answered any angel here playing games
[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Laurie Morgan in is he available?
[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not. No
[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_00]: We want a lot for them want a lot for them, right and then a Walker Kessler is he available?
[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_00]: No, absolutely not not available whatsoever. Stop calling us while Walker Kessler then it comes out that now Walker Kessler
[00:58:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Is available
[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_00]: My whole thing is I just want him to get 30 minutes on a team and they just allow him to do his thing
[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_00]: So whether it's in Utah or somewhere else
[00:59:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I am hoping that Walker Kessler gets that opportunity and
[00:59:14] [SPEAKER_00]: then last but not least number 20 on our list is
[00:59:19] [SPEAKER_00]: none other than Jonathan Kaminka and the reason not the reason he's at 20, but
[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_00]: He just has a really high upside one
[00:59:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Ghost a warrior six eight
[00:59:32] [SPEAKER_00]: 210 pounds
[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_00]: versatile for
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Born in Goma the Democratic Republic of Congo
[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And made his way to the NBA and was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft
[00:59:49] [SPEAKER_00]: by the Warriors
[00:59:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Kaminka was a standout at Patrick's school in New Jersey
[00:59:55] [SPEAKER_00]: before opting to play in the G League for the ignite where his raw athleticism and
[01:00:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And
[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Potential caught the attention of Scouts across the league now
[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kaminka's pre-draft scouting report
[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Kaminka was seen as one of the highest upside players in the draft class Scouts crazed his athleticism
[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_00]: elite
[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: defensive potential
[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Elite and his ability to finish at the rim
[01:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: However, there were concerns about his consistency
[01:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: shooting mechanics and his decision-making the consensus was that Kaminka was
[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Could be a star if he developed his offensive game and refined his
[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: basketball IQ
[01:00:48] now
[01:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Wasserman said this about Kaminka
[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_00]: His athleticism and defensive potential are through the roof if he refines his offensive game
[01:01:01] [SPEAKER_00]: He could be a star
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Now let's talk about his development. We talked about it
[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: earlier when we talked about how he was getting yanked in and out of the lineup last year and then he made
[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Comments out to the press about how he didn't really enjoy his development path that he was on in
[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden State now start Steve Kerr came out a lot and talked about hey
[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Kaminka needs to understand that he needs to make rebounding a priority and that's how he can get on the court and
[01:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Stay on the court now with injuries and with lineup fluctuations of what-have-you
[01:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kaminka second half of season was tearing it up. He ended the season which was his third year
[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Averaging 16.1 points again. We talked about the rebounds at 4.8 at 2.2 assists again
[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: While he shot 52.9 percent from the field
[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: He his defensive capabilities have been as advertised
[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: But what's truly impressive is his offensive growth becoming consistent from beyond the arc
[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: There's still room for improvement at 32.1 percent from three
[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But Kaminka have has been making as advancements in that area his advance metric show
[01:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: That he's a player learning how to harness his raw abilities
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: into impactful play on both ends of the floor a current
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Scout and evaluations that carper says this about Jonathan Kaminka coming has all the tools be a lead defender
[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: His development could be the key to the Warriors future success
[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: One executives told us
[01:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Kaminka's progression this season shows he could be more than just a complimented piece
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: He's starting to look like a future star in this league and then development outlook from the NBA scout
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Says Kaminka's path to stardom depends on his continued development as a shooter
[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So we were talking about the 32.1 percent. So he's gonna have to up that he's gonna have to get to 36 percent
[01:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna have to get there his continued development as a shooter and decision maker if he's if he can tighten up those areas
[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He has the potential to exceed his pre-draft comparisons to players like Jaylen Brown
[01:03:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin O'Connor said this the Warriors are
[01:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Investing heavily in Kaminka's development in if he continues on this trajectory
[01:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: He could be a cornerstone piece for them as they transition into a new era
[01:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about when we were talking about Golden State's pre-draft observations
[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: We were talking about which one of these guys was gonna step up whether it was gonna be Andrew Wiggins or Kaminka
[01:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: now the Lakers
[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Joe and Kurt along with Mike Dunley with jr. Have been begging and pleading to allow
[01:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Kaminka to work through some of his
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: deficiencies on the court in real time and
[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if there was some sort of meeting between Kerr and the front office or
[01:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Did Kerr just realize like
[01:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: If I don't get this guy developed
[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: We have no shot at being competitive down the road. I
[01:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Kaminka's time was more consistent and he flourished in that role
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And if he's gonna continue on that path, which we do not see any reason
[01:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: For him not to continue on that path
[01:04:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It will come down to can he get to 36% from three?
[01:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: if he does that and
[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: continues his intentionality on defense and also
[01:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Continue to improve as a rebounder
[01:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: 4.8 rebounds a game for Jonathan Kaminka is too low. He has to be a six and a half
[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Rebounder per game guy
[01:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: To be truly impactful. That's what he's got to be that is our
