[00:01:16] And that will be coming up towards the end of September and we'll be announcing that
[00:01:22] Probably in and probably in the middle of September. So keep a lookout for that as well
[00:01:28] The other thing is this is that we're going to do our pre-camp preview
[00:01:34] And we're gonna stay on the West Coast, but a little bit north on the West Coast
[00:01:39] So can't wait to do that with a Sareha and Funch and

[00:01:54] And then the other thing is to make sure that you are downloading the podcast
[00:01:59] That you are telling friends being a friend and telling friend about the podcast in regards to
[00:02:06] Make sure that it grows. All right, we are giving you this Monday Wednesday and Friday and
[00:02:13] There's a lot of people out there who are still feeling for the basketball and
[00:02:18] We understand that it's football season. So this is a little dry time
[00:02:23] But we are here for you and we got a lot to go over. So with all that being said
[00:02:30] We're gonna get into our york pod today
[00:02:33] So we're gonna be breaking down the top 25 25 and under and we're going to be looking at
[00:02:39] numbers 13 and
[00:02:41] Also number 12 so with
[00:02:45] Without further ado, let's get to it
[00:02:48] number 13 on our list kicking things off is Evan Mowgli
[00:02:53] The seven footer from USC who's already established himself as one of the most versatile impact pool defenders in the NBA
[00:03:04] Mowgli was drafted third overall in the 2021
[00:03:09] NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and let me tell you he's already making waves across the league where
[00:03:16] We're gonna break it down his game
[00:03:18] Also his development so far and what the future looks like for him, but
[00:03:24] Before we do that. Let's go back
[00:03:27] Let's go back
[00:03:29] We're gonna go back to the pre-draft
[00:03:31] All right, I took some notes obviously I had notes from 2021 looked at Jonathan Gavoni
[00:03:38] I also looked at Kevin O'Connor. Let's see who else I looked at a couple other people
[00:03:43] But this is what we came up with
[00:03:46] Up before Mowgli was drafted
[00:03:48] This is what Scouts are saying Gavoni of ESPN
[00:03:52] Mowgli's ability to guard both perimeter and the paint is unparalleled for a player his size
[00:03:58] What made Mowgli stand out was his defensive versatility
[00:04:03] His ability to switch onto guards while playing or while also protecting
[00:04:10] the rim
[00:04:11] Kevin O'Connor says this from the ringer
[00:04:14] He describes him as a unicorn with elite shot blocking and lateral quickness a perfect fit for the modern NBA
[00:04:23] Now there were some concerns and it was more on the offensive end and this is where we've also seen so far
[00:04:30] Mowgli struggles in the league is that it's really had come down to
[00:04:35] We have not seen the lead on
[00:04:37] The offensive side that we thought we were going to because given his athleticism
[00:04:44] His his ability to move around and what have you we just thought that we would get a
[00:04:50] More robust offensive player and I'm not saying that it's all gone
[00:04:54] But let's get into some of the concerns that were there at that time. This is from Jonathan Wasserman
[00:05:01] Question a question whether Mowgli could hold up physically in the NBA given his slender frame
[00:05:06] He wrote Mowgli's lack of strength may expose
[00:05:10] Against the leagues more physical centers and that's something we have seen over times in the last two seasons
[00:05:18] but let's dive into what makes Mowgli so special and
[00:05:22] Why some people think he has exceeded
[00:05:26] Excautations I think personally for me and I'm only speaking for me
[00:05:31] I'm not let down. I really thought we would see more from the offensive side now
[00:05:39] I've also talked about on this podcast that I
[00:05:43] Do believe that Donovan Mitchell showing up and Jared Allen showing up really did kind of quell some of his development as far as where
[00:05:51] How quickly he can get some of the offense because some of the opportunities have been taken away from him
[00:05:57] And when you take opportunities away from a young guy
[00:06:01] Expedentially slows down the growth and the developmental path that you have with that guy
[00:06:07] But let's look at his numbers
[00:06:09] So in just a second season, he's already proven himself to be one of the best defenders last season
[00:06:15] 16.2 points a game nine rebounds
[00:06:19] one and a half blocks a game
[00:06:22] But his impact is beyond the box score his defensive rating is
[00:06:27] 109.8
[00:06:29] Place him in top ten defenders in the league
[00:06:33] And the Cleveland Cavaliers posted it a defensive rating of
[00:06:37] as a team at of
[00:06:40] 110.6 and
[00:06:43] Mowgli was a huge part of that
[00:06:45] His defensive win shares are 4.6
[00:06:50] Showing just how much he contributes to his team's success on the defensive end
[00:06:56] This comes from Tim Bon temps of ESPN. He recently discussed Mowgli's growth
[00:07:02] He says what what makes Mowgli special isn't just the shot blocking it or the rebounding
[00:07:07] It's his ability guard from John Morant to Joel and B without being outmatched
[00:07:15] That's how I praise especially considering how Mowgli has quickly adapted to the NBA demands
[00:07:21] Mowgli's defensive box plus minus is 3.1 which ranks him as
[00:07:27] Among the elite defensive players in the league and his ability to guard multiple positions is becoming
[00:07:35] The most valuable
[00:07:37] Is becoming most valuable as the league trends towards
[00:07:41] Piz listen positional is basketball
[00:07:43] Bon temps added as
[00:07:45] Mowgli developed his offensive game
[00:07:49] There are no reasons. He can't become a perennial all NBA player
[00:07:54] now
[00:07:55] Here's the thing
[00:07:57] with that
[00:07:59] And this is what it really is gonna come down to and Mowgli is already a top tier defensive player
[00:08:05] There's no doubt about that he needs some polish on his offensive situation and what it is what is going to come down to
[00:08:13] is
[00:08:15] I don't question the athleticism and what he can do around the paint. It will be his three-point shooting
[00:08:22] It still remains a weakness to this day 21 from beyond the art
[00:08:26] Oh, he's an efficient score inside the art
[00:08:28] The ability to space the floor will be crucial for his development because the thing about it is is that jaren
[00:08:34] Allen doesn't space the floor the touch that we have seen from Mowgli
[00:08:39] Throughout his career even at usc and also now in the pros. He does shoot free throws fairly well
[00:08:47] I don't understand why we can't get him to four three pointers a gang
[00:08:53] And make it a weapon
[00:08:55] Now corner threes will have you I don't know if this is something that
[00:09:01] With the new coach Kenny Ackinsons. We just did a pre camp preview on cleveland within the last week
[00:09:08] So go back to our archive pods and check that out
[00:09:11] And I think you'll be surprised we do a whole thing on evan mowgli
[00:09:15] But I do believe that his ability to knock down
[00:09:21] A three-point shot will be what takes him to the next level
[00:09:25] In terms of efficiency so far on shots outside the paint
[00:09:30] Just 41 percent last year. That's an area where he needs to improve
[00:09:35] Developing a reliable jumper particularly from three-point range. We just talked about that will be key for him to take the next step
[00:09:43] His role alongside Darius garland and donovan Mitchell
[00:09:49] It makes him a vital part of the Cavaliers
[00:09:51] But tim vaughn tem said something on the hoop collective. I want to say
[00:09:57] Not the last episode maybe the previous episode before
[00:10:01] he said that
[00:10:03] The upside to
[00:10:07] Donovan Mitchell being the number one player on your team doesn't put you in championship
[00:10:13] Contention
[00:10:14] He says that it would have to be evan mowgli to take that
[00:10:19] moniker
[00:10:20] To allow cleveland to reach the heights that they want to reach and get to the promised land
[00:10:26] Which is the eastern conference finals and then the nba finals
[00:10:30] If that's the case
[00:10:32] We got to see a lot more from mowgli and the other thing that is critical with that
[00:10:39] Is donovan Mitchell just signed a contract max contract
[00:10:43] Understand that mowgli is there for the long term and he's the future as well
[00:10:51] If he's getting the opportunities that donovan was supposed to get or donovan is still going to get the number one
[00:10:57] opportunities and allow evan mowgli to grow
[00:11:01] Into this row. Does that mean that dairies garland now falls into the number three row?
[00:11:07] Because i'm gonna tell you right now there were there were times of
[00:11:12] tension between dairies garland and donovan Mitchell last year
[00:11:16] Now understand there you're hearing that everything is fine
[00:11:20] And of course when everything is zero zero and nothing's on the table and there's no stakes everything can be fine
[00:11:27] But at the end of the day
[00:11:30] I don't know if dairies garland is going to be really thrilled about being like the number three option
[00:11:35] When he has shown a superior offensive game
[00:11:39] Now obviously, you know
[00:11:41] Evan help helps him on the defensive side no doubt because dairies is not the greatest defender in the whole wide world, but
[00:11:49] With that being said
[00:11:52] We're talking about a monumental shift in ideology and philosophy with the cleveland cavaliers
[00:11:58] And if that's the case then I think we're going to be looking at the cleveland cavaliers kind of being in that third tier
[00:12:04] Of eastern conference finals teams if any of this is going to go on
[00:12:10] Okay, so what we're saying is
[00:12:14] If it's no status quo if it's
[00:12:17] If it turns out to be donovan Mitchell number one opportunity gets 22 to 25 shots and then evan mowgli
[00:12:25] Is now your number two guy where he's ended up getting like 18 to 22 shots again
[00:12:31] That is a far cry from what was going on last year
[00:12:38] Is evan mowgli even up for that task I would ask that question
[00:12:45] Well, let's hear some closing remarks
[00:12:51] Evan mowgli's defensive impact already is lead but as bond temp pointed out offensive development
[00:12:58] Will determine just how high his ceiling is
[00:13:02] If he can improve his shooting and add more strength mowgli has the potential to be the best two one of the best two way
[00:13:09] Biggs in the nva cleveland's betting big on him and with good reason
[00:13:14] We've never lost phase. We've never lost
[00:13:18] Taking turned in any shares on mowgli island
[00:13:22] Evan mowgli to us is still a stud
[00:13:26] Again, I will
[00:13:28] Reiterate what I said earlier in regards to his development and something that I've said throughout this whole process
[00:13:36] And you hear it. We say a lot also when we are talking about the draft
[00:13:42] Development is not linear
[00:13:44] Okay, just because somebody took this leap this year doesn't necessarily mean that he's going to take the same type of
[00:13:53] Schedule leap the next year right so now
[00:13:57] And again, we talked about donovan mitchell
[00:14:00] stymie some of evan mowgli's progress and development
[00:14:06] So how do we get that? So now we're going to have to force feet
[00:14:11] Okay, if we're force feeding development and we're force feeding opportunities
[00:14:16] What does this do to the chemistry of the cleveland cavaliers?
[00:14:21] What is kenny akinsons role in this situation? Does he have a meeting?
[00:14:26] Does he tell the players hey for us to get to where we need to go? Yeah, we might have to take a step back this year
[00:14:31] But that guy's development meaning evan mowgli
[00:14:37] Is omnie important to us to get to that level that we all want to get to
[00:14:44] So I'll be looking very closely to see how
[00:14:49] Evan mowgli is used early on in the season and to see if there's any
[00:14:54] Any changes any workload
[00:14:57] Enhancements those type of things is what I'm going to be looking for when we get to the season in evan mowgli
[00:15:04] Now for our next guy and it might be controversial number 12 on this list
[00:15:12] Is k cunningham of the detroit pistons?
[00:15:15] And this was a boned contention in a lot of ways, but I'm just going to say it just like this
[00:15:22] He was the first overall pick in the 2021 nba draft. He was slowed by andries, right?
[00:15:29] he
[00:15:30] So he took basically your office second year and the team around him has been absolutely
[00:15:37] Dogshit, he's had multiple coaches now. He has also seen a complete entire regime change
[00:15:47] In the front office
[00:15:51] It's been a mess his whole career
[00:15:54] Let's get to know our guy k cunningham
[00:15:58] A little bit better
[00:16:00] We're going to go back to his pre draft situation jonathan gavoni of espn
[00:16:04] Had k cutting him and his clear number one
[00:16:08] Overall pick calling him a do-it-all playmaker with size
[00:16:12] Of a wing in the vision of a point guard
[00:16:15] K's combination of size at 6 6 I think he's 6 7
[00:16:19] His basketball IQ and his ability to control the game's tempo had scouts raving
[00:16:26] Let's get to what kevin o'connor had to say
[00:16:31] K cutting him has the tools to be a luka donchik like playmaker in the nba
[00:16:37] His leadership at oklahoma state
[00:16:40] Set him apart and his versatility as both a scorer and a facilitator
[00:16:46] Made him a camp mis-crossback
[00:16:48] Now k was a
[00:16:51] A real
[00:16:52] How can I put this with k?
[00:16:55] Without that was the jail and green situation
[00:16:59] And there was a huge like rivalry between detroit piston fans and houston rocket fans and who got the better of the other guys
[00:17:07] And houston believed they got the better of the guy
[00:17:10] And detroit really felt confident
[00:17:13] That they had got the better of the guy and honestly to tell you the truth
[00:17:18] I would think that k
[00:17:19] As far as
[00:17:22] All that he can do
[00:17:24] I still bet k out
[00:17:27] More than I would
[00:17:31] Then jail and green and I let me say that a little more eloquently
[00:17:37] I would take
[00:17:39] K's future
[00:17:41] Over jail and greens future even though
[00:17:45] What I've seen so far
[00:17:47] And that might be
[00:17:51] Naive that might be just just
[00:17:54] K being a guy who
[00:17:58] Stylistically pleases my eye more than jailing does but
[00:18:03] I still think that k has a huge opportunity in front of him. I hope
[00:18:09] That the team
[00:18:11] That trajan langdon the new president of player personnel of the detroit pistons
[00:18:17] Along with jb victor stab who came over from cleveland
[00:18:22] To turn this ship around
[00:18:25] I hope
[00:18:26] That we start to see
[00:18:29] A real change in detroit
[00:18:31] But I want to get to my guy and start talking about his
[00:18:35] What were some of the concerns k's athleticism jonathan waserman from bleacher report raised a valid point about
[00:18:42] K's lack of elite speed saying cunningham doesn't have the explosive first step in other top tier guards
[00:18:50] And that that could live in his ability to create separation against quicker nba defenders
[00:18:58] Let's talk about what he is right now
[00:19:01] We're gonna fast forward to today
[00:19:03] K cunningham has shown why he was the first overall pick but his path
[00:19:09] Has again without challenges k has missed most most of a season with shin injury
[00:19:16] He only played 12 games in his second year
[00:19:19] And then he came back last year and we know about the whole situation
[00:19:24] with
[00:19:26] money williams and just a roster and just
[00:19:30] The lack of shooting and what have you was really a lost year for kade. I couldn't take anything away from last year
[00:19:38] Until leet and k showed off leet
[00:19:41] Right, they put a couple shooters around them and all of a sudden we saw k vk
[00:19:47] K
[00:19:48] So now also with this being said they did also get by saris. They did get uh tim harderway jr
[00:19:55] So hopefully with these additions you're gonna see a different k now kade average 19.9 points a game
[00:20:02] 6.2 rebounds and six assists that's solid
[00:20:06] His assist percentage was 29.1 which rates him
[00:20:10] Among the best in the league for a guard at his age his ability to create offense for his teammates
[00:20:18] Remained the greatest thing that he currently owns
[00:20:22] John holliger of the athletic says this k's vision and ability to control the game pace
[00:20:28] Games pace are advanced for a player his age his natural floor general ship now as far as k needs to
[00:20:38] Help himself out. He needs to shoot better from three
[00:20:42] Excuse me, he needs to shoot better from three. He needs to continue to
[00:20:50] Volumize that skill not shooting 36 percent is still problematic
[00:20:56] But that whole team doesn't shoot very well
[00:20:59] Is it was a very vinten went up there? So if vinten is up there
[00:21:02] We're gonna have we should have some some critical situations as far as that's concerned
[00:21:07] So we'll see how that kind of plays out
[00:21:11] Sound amic from the athletic said this noted a k needs to become more reliable shooter
[00:21:16] To unlock his full potential his true shooting percentage of 50
[00:21:20] 0.7 is below league average and improving his shooting efficiency will be critical to the pistons
[00:21:27] Continue to build around him now. Here's the thing with that
[00:21:30] When you are shooting like 50.7 percent true shooting percentage, that's well below league average
[00:21:37] Now again this goes to
[00:21:40] How much are we going to blame the player? How much are we going to blame the pieces around him?
[00:21:46] How much are we going to blame?
[00:21:49] Organizationally failing k cutting. I think most of it is the organization failing him
[00:21:56] I think now that we do have some sort of semblance of
[00:22:00] 18
[00:22:01] Team
[00:22:02] Will get to see some we I think this will be the first year we can truly judge
[00:22:09] Kade cutting him on what he is and then really start to see what he needs to
[00:22:15] Really focus on to get better and I think the funny part about it is that I think this is the first time for k to go
[00:22:21] Hey, okay. I have some decent teammates now. I got some stuff to work with
[00:22:26] Can he learn how to control the game?
[00:22:29] In the mba the way he did in college
[00:22:32] These are things that we are hoping to find out
[00:22:35] and we hope
[00:22:37] That with tobias harris tim harterway jr
[00:22:41] And what some some old fontecchio?
[00:22:44] We hope that and with improved shooting from jaden ivy
[00:22:50] And we create a god that a sewer tomson can make more than 18 of histories as well
[00:22:56] So there's a lot to to be asking
[00:23:00] And I think is he has a real incomplete grade right now. So I personally
[00:23:06] Am looking forward to seeing
[00:23:09] What this year really holds for our guy k cutting him shoot it better
[00:23:13] That'll be the first and foremost thing that I would say we are going to now move along to our
[00:23:21] Pre-camp preview and who is going to be that team?
[00:23:26] It is none other
[00:23:29] Than the sacramental kings like the beam
[00:23:32] We are in the state capital of california sacramental
[00:23:38] has now been two years
[00:23:41] out of this playoff drought situation
[00:23:44] The big trade a couple years ago was the damontis of bonus tyree's howler burton and we will be hitting on that trade
[00:23:52] But not for what you think
[00:23:54] We are not going to talk about
[00:23:57] Who won the trade who lost the trade? We don't care. We're just dealing with the sacramental kings at this point
[00:24:04] We're also going to talk about a little bit about devin carter
[00:24:08] And his injury and how that might affect some of the plans that we're going to happen this year
[00:24:14] And we'll talk about some of the offseason move they drafted devin carter
[00:24:19] We'll get to his profile in a little while. He did have an injury. It's a shoulder injury
[00:24:25] We have no idea on the time frame of when he's going to be back
[00:24:29] I will not expect him
[00:24:31] any time
[00:24:32] in 2024
[00:24:36] Okay, so if you're thinking about him in any way
[00:24:40] Think of him after the first of the year if at all
[00:24:44] Right and then he's behind the eight ball
[00:24:47] Because he didn't have a training camp and also because of the fact that
[00:24:51] They're gonna have rotations set on philosophies who's clan where
[00:24:57] Minute and symmetry and things of that nature
[00:24:59] But anytime you bring in a real talented player, you always find minutes for him
[00:25:04] But it's a lot to ask a rookie to come in
[00:25:08] In january maybe february
[00:25:12] And then go ahead and start helping out the team. So this might be a whole year stash
[00:25:19] When it comes to sacramental, but I like devin carter a lot
[00:25:24] And we'll get to him a little bit later
[00:25:26] And then also they got demar de rosin as well in a trade. So we're going to start there
[00:25:32] So sacramental acquired demar de rosin in the signing trade that sent heresy barns
[00:25:38] To the san Antonio spurs de rosin is expected to bring veteran leadership and clutch scoring
[00:25:45] Something the kings
[00:25:47] Have a lot of because de erin fox was one of the
[00:25:52] Clutch for a couple years ago one clutch player of the year. So now you got to he will bring something that they do need is
[00:25:59] Another fourth quarter
[00:26:02] Optionality
[00:26:04] Demar de rosin does bring that so we'll see how he would how they will stack up in the western conference with that
[00:26:11] now
[00:26:12] Deer and fox is also on this team. Deer and fox is
[00:26:17] Is still ascending at this point and we love his game here at f r. I'm looking forward
[00:26:24] To seeing demar de rosin
[00:26:26] And deer and fox on the same squad
[00:26:29] I am now. Here's the one thing that I will ask is that mike brown
[00:26:35] Is doing a lot with less and what I mean by that is that demar de rosin
[00:26:42] Is is great of an offensive player
[00:26:45] As he is and can stabilize the offense
[00:26:49] No doubt
[00:26:52] He is not the best defender on the face of the planet and now you're putting him
[00:26:58] With more players that don't defend
[00:27:02] but
[00:27:04] You cannot
[00:27:06] turn off
[00:27:07] The 20 plus points a game that he's going to give you every single night
[00:27:13] And he also started to shoot the three a little bit more. So I wonder if that's going to be
[00:27:17] Now an intro quarter his game or is he still going to be a mid range just absolute assassin?
[00:27:25] Only time will tell
[00:27:28] We're going to bring up keon ellis at this point who
[00:27:32] Really was an absolute fine last year for the sacramental kings and
[00:27:37] He is going to be absolutely
[00:27:41] important
[00:27:42] To what the kings do because he took over for kevin herder who got hurt now
[00:27:47] I don't know if kevin herder will regain the guy he was in atlanta
[00:27:52] But if keon ellis can play the the way he did in the second half
[00:27:58] And be that like real star in your role role player
[00:28:03] Where you're providing point of the tag defense
[00:28:06] You are 6 6
[00:28:09] You seem to be able to have some switchability onto bigger players and handle yourself correctly
[00:28:14] And then the other thing is is that his three-point shooting is
[00:28:18] He shot it better than kevin herder last year. Let's put it that way
[00:28:23] That's the first and foremost thing. He was close to 40%
[00:28:27] Keon ellis is going to play a big role and I think with demar de rosin being on his team kevin
[00:28:33] Keon ellis is going to be
[00:28:35] Major and he he's going to be in the starting lineup. No doubt
[00:28:42] All right, let's talk about subbonus a little bit here
[00:28:45] The other star on the teams the bonus has been a perfect fit for the sacramental kings offense average in 19.1
[00:28:52] Point 12 point. He actually averaged way more than that and grabs the stats real quick
[00:28:57] He was over 20 and like 13 last year
[00:29:00] The other thing is this is that he is become also another like offensive hub
[00:29:05] So if you wanted to run different style offense, they run a lot of
[00:29:09] nail action with subbonus
[00:29:12] And he is one of those guys that gives you a bunch of double doubles. He plays through injury
[00:29:19] He plays hard
[00:29:21] He's just real solid
[00:29:24] Here's the problem
[00:29:26] Subbonus defense is still a glaring issue
[00:29:31] Defensive rating on 113.4
[00:29:35] Is one of the lowest among centers
[00:29:37] NBA scouts repeatedly point out that
[00:29:40] Subbonus lack of rim protection could be a major problem
[00:29:44] In the playoffs one western conference scout said subbonus is an elite playmaker
[00:29:49] But his defense is a liability especially in the pick and roll teams will target him
[00:29:54] All pole seats again. I told you that we weren't going to get into the Tyrese Halliburton
[00:29:59] Demonic subbonus now we do we bring it up
[00:30:03] Not to critique it. We bring it up. That was a inflection point
[00:30:10] in sacramental's
[00:30:12] Trajectory, right? They did get better
[00:30:16] They did get better with subbonus
[00:30:19] But I think there's a ceiling
[00:30:21] With subbonus being on the team and we just talked about the reasons why
[00:30:25] We talked about the defense the defensive
[00:30:28] Blind spot that he has. He just can't protect the rim. He doesn't have long enough armed
[00:30:33] He's like six eight and a half six nine at best
[00:30:37] He's a strong tough son of a bitch
[00:30:40] He's gonna rebound his butt off
[00:30:42] He's gonna give you every ounce of effort. He can possibly get give you
[00:30:49] But until you decide that you're gonna put like a
[00:30:55] Oh a lengthy
[00:30:58] switchable
[00:30:59] Wing that that has like a wing span of like seven foot three
[00:31:04] around
[00:31:06] Subbonus, this is this is just not gonna work. They're gonna win a lot of regular season games
[00:31:11] They might get themselves in the playoff mix. This is a really tough west
[00:31:15] But the one thing that you know about the sacramental kings is that they're gonna play hard
[00:31:21] And they're gonna play fast and if you're not ready for it
[00:31:25] If you're coming off a back to back
[00:31:28] Or this is the second game of the back to back
[00:31:31] Or let's say you had a stretch where you played
[00:31:34] Four games and seven days or whatever the case may be
[00:31:39] Oh, yeah
[00:31:40] Sacramento is going to run you out the building
[00:31:43] Okay, Mike Brown wants that he will he will definitely give it to you
[00:31:48] Here's the other thing that I'll say about Subbonus
[00:31:53] A lot of people last year were talking about whether he should be an all-star
[00:31:57] Whether he should be or should not be an all NBA player
[00:32:05] You can say whatever you want about Nicola Yelkic
[00:32:09] He's a far superior defender than DeMonte Subbonus
[00:32:14] It's not even close. You want to know why?
[00:32:18] Sacramento is considered like a
[00:32:20] Like a team that is like in that third tier in the west or maybe playing maybe not playing whatever
[00:32:26] They're on that little edge
[00:32:29] This is the reason why and is
[00:32:31] And I'll bring up the trade for this reason and this reason only
[00:32:36] I will never ammonish the team for trying to get better
[00:32:42] I will never be like, oh well shit. Why would you do this?
[00:32:46] This is only going to get you to the playoffs or I'll get you
[00:32:50] Competitively around the playoffs or whatever, but now we're at a point where we're looking at the team when we got Keegan Murray who
[00:32:58] Is his development about to slow down
[00:33:01] And we talked about it on the last pod. So go check out the archive pods because
[00:33:06] Keegan Murray was in our top 25
[00:33:09] 25 and under in the last pod
[00:33:14] but
[00:33:15] You got Keegan Murray who
[00:33:18] Is a pretty good defender, but he's not a rim protector. DeMar DeRosa now is your small forward
[00:33:25] That's not a lot of rim protection
[00:33:28] And then you got Keon Ellis and you got
[00:33:32] Deere Fox
[00:33:34] So explain to me where the defensive leak is going to take place
[00:33:40] because I don't see it
[00:33:42] And as good as DeMontez Simonez is
[00:33:47] As steady as he is
[00:33:53] You have a ceiling and there's limitations to his game
[00:33:58] so
[00:33:59] trade
[00:34:00] Worth it not worth it. Who knows Sacramento?
[00:34:04] I know that these are things that you don't want to hear
[00:34:09] because
[00:34:11] These are things
[00:34:13] You've gone to the playoffs or you've been in postseason a couple years
[00:34:17] But there's levels to this and for you to go where you want to go
[00:34:22] Oh, and by the way
[00:34:25] What is deer and fox thinking through all this situation as well?
[00:34:29] Because that's the other key to this deal
[00:34:33] Is that deer and fox can sit there and look at
[00:34:37] All it is and go
[00:34:39] Well, hell am I ever going to get to like
[00:34:42] The western conference finals over here? Am I ever going to play in
[00:34:48] long
[00:34:49] Playoff run situations the way we set up
[00:34:55] I'm not trying to scare sacramental fans. I'm not trying to make sacramental fans feel nervous, but
[00:35:03] Deere and fox is one of my candidates for
[00:35:06] Hey disc runner superstar asking for out
[00:35:11] Not saying he's that type of dude because he's not this is bullshit. I'm out type of dude
[00:35:17] what
[00:35:18] You do have to
[00:35:21] At least agree with me here
[00:35:24] Deere and fox is going through a lot of stuff
[00:35:27] In sacramental ups downs whatever now right now
[00:35:31] It's more on the up or whatever but the one thing that
[00:35:34] Deere and fox wants to do he wants to play in all star games
[00:35:37] He wants to be on he wants to be like one of the guys in the league. He wants to be known as
[00:35:45] One of the top 15 best in the league. He's he wants to be known as an all perennial
[00:35:52] All NBA player, you know what I'm saying? Like those are the type of goals that he's trying to manifest for himself
[00:36:01] He changed his diet changed his workout resume. He got real serious in the gym real serious in the lab
[00:36:10] Took off and now it's going to be up to sacramental to find a way to get from
[00:36:17] Pretty good or good. Let's just say good when you're gonna say pretty good. Say good
[00:36:23] To great, how do you get there?
[00:36:27] When do you rip off the band aid?
[00:36:30] That is de Montes upon us or do you augment the lineup in a different way?
[00:36:35] Do you reimagine the lineup in a way where
[00:36:39] De Montes upon us is still there, but you've added like a really
[00:36:46] Long wingspan
[00:36:48] Rim protector who can play the fork and can shoot it from outside
[00:36:53] I don't know. I don't know the answer to a lot of these questions
[00:36:57] But these are the questions we have going into camp
[00:37:02] All right
[00:37:04] We're going to get into Devin Carter a little bit because I wanted to at least talk about him as far as what
[00:37:10] Sacramento can expect when he does play
[00:37:14] um
[00:37:16] Devin Carter is a rickiotta Providence
[00:37:19] Uh, Carter was expected to bring defensive
[00:37:22] A versatility to the perimeter. He recently underwent
[00:37:27] surgery to repair a labrum
[00:37:29] tear
[00:37:30] And his left shoulder and is expected to miss six months. This is a big blow to Sacramento's defense
[00:37:38] especially considering ranked 24th
[00:37:42] In defensive rating last season 24 out of 30 teams guys
[00:37:47] without Carter
[00:37:49] They will have to rely more on
[00:37:53] Jalen McDaniels Malik munk kevin herder
[00:37:56] Keon Ellis and
[00:37:58] The same
[00:38:01] So what are the three burning questions for the Sacramento Kings?
[00:38:07] Heading into training camp
[00:38:09] first
[00:38:10] Can deer and fox continue his rise into stardom?
[00:38:16] well
[00:38:17] The one thing that I will say that could take deer and fox
[00:38:22] to the next hemisphere
[00:38:25] is the
[00:38:26] defensive
[00:38:28] Intentionality that he had coming out of Kentucky
[00:38:31] And maybe the first couple years
[00:38:33] In sacramental now, I know
[00:38:36] That he took on a bigger offensive load
[00:38:39] sold in
[00:38:40] He kind of took his foot pedal off the
[00:38:45] Accelerator or whatever or the gas
[00:38:48] On the defense event but with
[00:38:52] DeMar de Rosen there now and Cicbonus who is a walking double double
[00:38:57] And you know you can get like 20 from DeMar de Rosen
[00:39:01] Does this allow for deer and fox to ramp up the defense of
[00:39:07] intensity and
[00:39:09] Intentionality
[00:39:11] So then that maybe some of these people don't get to the rim
[00:39:17] Just a thought
[00:39:18] just a thought
[00:39:20] second question
[00:39:21] Will de Rosen fit into their offensive system without disrupting the flow and
[00:39:28] Finally address
[00:39:30] How will they talk about that last question?
[00:39:33] Let's get this question DeMar de Rosen and fit. Okay. DeMar de Rosen
[00:39:38] First of all is a veteran. He's been around Lee for
[00:39:41] Plenty of years. He's like 35 years old
[00:39:44] Here's the thing
[00:39:46] DeMar de Rosen will find his way
[00:39:49] DeMar de Rosen has played many positions in the NBA. He's played point guard. He's played the wing. He's played shooting guard
[00:39:59] I don't think there's not a lot that de Rosen
[00:40:03] hasn't seen
[00:40:05] so I think he will
[00:40:08] Very easily find his way in now
[00:40:12] Let's flip it to the other side
[00:40:18] The defensive side
[00:40:19] Now de mar de Rosen is not going to
[00:40:23] He's not sitting here trying to lock everybody up. Okay, but now you have
[00:40:29] If herder doesn't start
[00:40:31] Right. We got Keon Ellis. Okay
[00:40:35] Deer and Fox great
[00:40:38] Can't complain about this
[00:40:41] This is where I get dicey
[00:40:43] DeMar de Rosen
[00:40:45] Keegan Murray
[00:40:47] De Montez wellness
[00:40:48] You don't have a lot of front-court defense
[00:40:51] You hope that Keegan Murray can take a step forward in that situation
[00:40:57] Maybe he can
[00:40:59] With through videotape watching and learning his opponents or whatever. Maybe he can get it like a step quicker
[00:41:05] to allow him to
[00:41:07] kind of be more
[00:41:09] impactful and defensive in but he's not
[00:41:12] A shot blocker by any means
[00:41:14] Sacramento will still have teams that's going straight to the hull and won the dunk. It will be an absolute dunkfest
[00:41:22] Job moran will be
[00:41:24] probably having his
[00:41:26] Private parts all up in de Montez the bonus phase this year and this is just going to be the real problem
[00:41:32] Until they decide to make some sort of change and see here's the thing
[00:41:36] Where does the change come from who is the change and who goes out?
[00:41:42] To allow this change to happen. Here's the last thing
[00:41:45] How does Mike Brown who was a defensive head coach before he got to
[00:41:50] Sacramento, how does Mike Brown
[00:41:53] In the Kings improve their defense to become a legitimate top 16
[00:41:59] in the west
[00:42:01] Where does it come from because it's not going to come from that starting lineup?
[00:42:06] What kind of scheme can they run?
[00:42:09] We'll see
[00:42:12] Here's what I will tell you there will have to be a trade for that
[00:42:16] To be able to help their defense and I still again
[00:42:19] Who do you take off the team?
[00:42:23] Good Kion Ellis is awesome
[00:42:26] But if you tell me hey
[00:42:29] We're we're getting we're getting like a
[00:42:33] six foot 11
[00:42:36] Like we're getting a jaren jackson
[00:42:38] Type a dude. I'm not saying jaren jackson jr. But I'm just saying we can get a jaren jackson type of dude
[00:42:44] Then yeah, absolutely
[00:42:46] We do that in a heartbeat. What can you shoot?
[00:42:49] You know and they don't need a jaren jackson jr. They can shoot prototype
[00:42:54] It's going to have to cover trade. You know, that's what it is
[00:42:56] And what's going to have that what you're going to see a lot this year with sacramental is you're going to see a lot of
[00:43:01] exciting basketball
[00:43:03] high scoring
[00:43:04] of
[00:43:06] Dema to subon is is going to have a ton of double doubles
[00:43:10] Maybe some treble doubles along the way
[00:43:13] And they're probably going win about 44 games
[00:43:17] Unless something changes
[00:43:20] Those are I don't look at them as a serious a serious contender in a stack west just because of the defense
[00:43:27] Daren fox is awesome. I like the demar de rosin
[00:43:31] Situation it gives you more optionality on offense
[00:43:35] This is good because if you're saying hey, and we're going to lean into our offense and try to have one of the best
[00:43:41] Offense in league
[00:43:43] Maybe that can get you kind of bump you up there a little bit
[00:43:46] Oh, you're playing with fools gold because in the end when you get to the playoffs front
[00:43:51] It's basically a half court game. And then guess what happens
[00:43:56] You're stuck
[00:43:58] so again
[00:44:01] I would say
[00:44:03] I would say incrementally improving but unfortunately in a west that's so stacked
[00:44:08] And now you're getting Memphis and you're getting new orleans and
[00:44:13] Maybe houston
[00:44:15] Joining the fray this year
[00:44:18] Winds are just going to come at a premium
[00:44:21] And you want to bring your best efforts every single night
[00:44:24] Sacramento is one of those teams that definitely gives a lot of effort
[00:44:28] So I give them a fighting chance. I just don't like their defense
[00:44:33] Sorry with that
[00:44:35] all right
[00:44:37] That has been our
[00:44:39] Pre-camp preview for the Sacramento Kings. I want to thank sarea
[00:44:43] I want to thank bunch of funds for helping me acquire some of this information for you
[00:44:49] To go ahead and give you a quality podcast. So thank you guys so much
[00:44:54] The other thing is this we told you that we were going to help you out with some of these
[00:45:01] I've exhausted my friend group. I told my family about frontrunner podcast collective. What can we do to
[00:45:10] Bring the program
[00:45:13] To new heights
[00:45:15] I know I feel you I feel your intensity about helping us go up the ranks of
[00:45:22] NBA podcast
[00:45:24] We want to be one of the best
[00:45:28] NBA podcasts on the planet. So
[00:45:31] How do we achieve this go? We're gonna try and tell you guys to talk up your radio people and stuff like that
[00:45:38] We told the ladies that they needed when they go out to the ladies night or go out to the bar or whatever case can be
[00:45:45] Instead of giving the guys the number you can tell them about frontrunner podcast collective. We did all of that
[00:45:53] We've done that
[00:45:56] And now we get to this. All right, there are a couple other places
[00:46:03] That sometimes you have to go to
[00:46:07] It is depending on your credit
[00:46:11] Depending on the availability of certain things it could take a long time or it could take a short time
[00:46:17] I know that we made some improvements and we got what is it carabana now?
[00:46:22] And whatever but still traditionally
[00:46:25] When we go to buy a car
[00:46:27] It takes a while now in this time
[00:46:31] that you are
[00:46:32] In this car lot trying to pick out the perfect vehicle for you
[00:46:38] Maybe your significant other
[00:46:40] maybe even your kids
