Summary
The aftermath of the NBA trade deadline saw some teams making significant improvements, while others remained inactive. The Dallas Mavericks improved their team by acquiring a rim-running center and a bigger version of Grant Williams. The New York Knicks added reinforcements to their roster, while the Boston Celtics made a depth move. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets made responsible moves to strengthen their teams. The Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets chose not to make any moves. The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks disappointed with their lack of activity. The Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, and Portland Trail Blazers also made no significant moves. The Utah Jazz made a salary dump, and the Houston Rockets focused on acquiring picks. In this conversation, Vince discusses various topics related to the NBA, including the development of young players, the Spurs' trade deadline moves, expectations for Doc Rivers as the Bucks' coach, treating players fairly vs. equally, building trust with stars, and defining a successful season for the Milwaukee Bucks.

[00:00:00] We choose to hit everybody.
[00:00:07] It's Big Carter, Front Run podcast collective back on the air.
[00:00:13] And we are here to talk about the aftermath of the trade deadline and talk about some
[00:00:20] specific trades as well.
[00:00:23] We'll go through each team and we'll give you kind of a breakdown of what's going on Podcast and just here for specific team we greet you no matter what So keep that in mind as well, and then let's move over to the Social needle social a la la social media of it all Sorry about that tongue twisted
[00:01:42] You can follow me on acts at
[00:02:44] on social media, just engage with us. Is there, if there's a team or a player
[00:02:46] that we're not spotlighting enough, let us know?
[00:02:49] And then also on the podcast level,
[00:02:55] five stars are great, comments are great, all are welcomed,
[00:02:59] and we look forward to servicing you.
[00:03:03] With that being said, let's get to all of what went down
[00:03:07] with the NBA trade deadline because there were some notable things that happened and there were some notable things that did not happen and I want to hit on all of those. So where we're going to start off with is that now that the trade deadline is over,
[00:04:20] you know, that's well, baby, we can really get into the hoops of it.
[00:04:24] Okay, that's the win the finals 30. So that pet right there doesn't seem to be a great pet, but this is what they gave up. But instead, what they got for it is a 25-year-old
[00:06:44] absolutely craze and desires in his Helio center awkness that he likes to run, right?
[00:06:50] And he's under a cost control contract.
[00:06:53] Those things are very important when we start to talk about
[00:06:57] did they give up their future?
[00:06:59] The other thing is that in this trade, Grant Williams
[00:07:04] was also sent away in the PJ Washington. Now PJ is pretty much kind of an average three-point shooter to just a tad below average, but at the end of the day, the defensive presence that he's going to be able to bring, he has some secondaffer, they just got tremendously bigger. Remember, is Grant Williams and Rachael this just rounds out that team a lot better and it is shown in the couple games that both those guys have played it. Now if Scout said to me gonna say too much of anything. You know Daniel gaffer comes off the bench He's probably not gonna say too much of anything because he was playing on the Washington Wizards Let's just remember where he was
[00:12:24] Washington who
[00:12:26] Has not yet hit double digits and wins yet Williams he played on that real young Boston Celtics team that went to the NBA what was the Eastern Conference Finals in 2019. Now that team that he appreciated LeBron more at that time. Which still conjures up rumors of Kyrie Irving coming to the Lakers at some to change once Grant Williams got to Dallas with Kyron the Urban? No, that dude was out on Grant day one. And the other thing with that is Luca holds him in high regard.
[00:16:23] Whatever we think of that relationship, whatever my thoughts on that So the New York Knicks had themselves a day on the trade deadline they they grabbed some reinforcements
[00:17:44] by fleecing the Detroit Pistons
[00:18:42] It's never gonna turn out good. So don't do it
[00:18:51] But the good thing is is that Evan is free because he was in witness protection in New York City for like the last three years
[00:18:54] Because time tippa dough would not play that guy
[00:18:56] so The next get to rotation pieces for their team who listen
[00:19:02] The cavalry is here, man. Let me let's let's be real about what's going on
[00:20:09] much UH try hearts. You got Jalen Brunson, you got Dejan Chinso, at some point you're going to have OGN and OV, Julie
[00:20:14] Srendel, and there's a good chance that Mitchell Robinson comes
[00:20:18] back before the end of the year. to get age superstar on their last legs and try to bring some excitement to the garden. They've actually
[00:21:40] built this team systematically. They have done it in a judicious way where they still have picks Last year So the next doing great things this is good for New York City. Love it All right, let's get to the rest of the teams and what they did during the trade deadline if they did anything whatsoever, so The Celtics got Xavier a Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies
[00:23:01] I love this piece because it's a it's a depth piece
[00:24:04] before the playoffs hit, you know, you guys think you still got Drew Holiday who's new and you got Porzinga who's new. So adding a real
[00:24:10] difference maker, which they didn't really have the capital to go out
[00:24:14] and do real difference maker, but bringing in a solid vet like
[00:24:19] Xavier Tillman will definitely help. On to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
[00:25:25] JB Bicker said deserved a lot of credit because there was things coming out of there that he might have been on the hot seat earlier in the season.
[00:25:29] Now they'll probably deny it now, but there were reports that, hey, if this kind of goes
[00:25:36] south, we might be looking to go ahead and do a coaching change.
[00:25:42] Now it's all worked out. So somebody got into Evan Mowgli's ear saying, hey dude, you need to shoot threes, whether you hit them or not, you need to shoot them because this is how we play now. So Evan Mowgli says he's come back, he's six or ten, I don't want anybody to get real,
[00:27:00] really excited that he's become some sort on from Donovan, but they didn't. And I'm glad have one concern or one plea to dog rivers. Could you please Alright, the 76ers, they add and they sold. Okay, so Daniel House Jr. Pat Bev of Farkon Corkmoss and Jalen Springer all leave. Basically, Shar Shooter, Buddy Hill comes back from the Pacers. Orlando not Identifying a point guard and getting getting somebody in there for the for bank arrow and Franz Wagner And how bad that was? I'm actually in complete disagreement with that The reason why is because
[00:32:21] Bank arrow who is
[00:32:23] Absolutely electric is in his second year
[00:32:27] Franz is in his third I don't think there's a mad rush to go out and get somebody to in a sense escalate their their Guess whatever their plight is for the playoffs this year get into the playoffs You know or the clan or whatever get some experience see what it's like and then you know
[00:33:42] Let's see what the guys are and then let's see what you actually need
[00:34:42] about what Chicago's doing.
[00:34:48] I'm angry for the fan base.
[00:34:51] I understand that Ryan's door. Okay, let's talk about this real quick.
[00:34:54] Artora's car near through this came out
[00:34:57] and made a statement and said that he alone
[00:35:01] made the decision not to tear down the team.
[00:35:03] And he said that he had complete autonomy Chicago has decided to do where they decided to go is this We're going to ride this out with the rosen. We might re-sign him. Who knows? We're going to re-sign a 35 year old guy. Great We got crew so under contract we could trade him next year But I don't know if his value is any higher than what is going to be right now
[00:36:21] Because he's actually hitting three pointers and he's still defending at a incredible level
[00:37:27] These are the type of things that they couldn't see past their supposed competitiveness in the plan, right? But I'm really angry for Chicago Bulls fans at this point. is controlling the offense. His splits are still at an all-star level. It's like 25 points, like 7 assists and whatever case they'd be. Well when he's playing with Trey which he has to because Trey is the guy in Atlanta. It's just not as
[00:39:01] effective at all. Both got an easy ball in their hands and they both cannot have Dennis Schroeder is an irritant. He can be kind of a pest on wall. And I think with wings like they have in Brooklyn, when you have McElle Bridges, you traded a first round pick for Yakuq Perbal. This year, you traded a first round pick for Kelly Onlinik.
[00:42:49] Then they took on monies of Davis Bartans and they got some young pieces with that. They got Trey Mann.
[00:42:51] They also got Vasselli Meechich, who I like a lot.
[00:42:58] And they got a couple seconds for that.
[00:43:02] Now Mitch Kugchak, who has been the deal for gaffer They get a first round take for that So anytime that you can get a first round pick for what I would consider a backup center. That's always a good deal
[00:44:26] Now the Pistons deals? Is it arm tell them? I don't know who it is, but stop making deals. Just stop. Just somebody get a hold of that franchise stop. I don't even want to go through their bank. It's depressing. They gave up second rounders. They got they got fleas from the Boyon deal
[00:45:40] because they didn't trade Boyon a year earlier. That's the GM up there so great. Clippers they did all they work early, hardened everything is just being left Which he is he's being completely but ignored behind a three-point line and that's a fact so when Gordon Hayward if he can stay healthy and Provide 16 to 18 minutes a game
[00:48:23] Along with case and Wallace
[00:48:25] You can piece together that fifth spot in
[00:49:22] play themselves into the rotation
[00:49:26] For the playoff run so
[00:49:30] They didn't do any moves which hey man Calvin
[00:49:33] believes in his guys
[00:49:40] The sons picked up Rose Rose or Dan on you and that was their big pickup from
[00:49:42] You know in the trade deadline now
[00:49:47] Since then they have also picked up dad young and more versatility up front that you didn't have. So kudos to the Phoenix Suns doing what they could do with what they had. Man, it was crickets in New Orleans, right? It was crickets along the bayou. Nothing.
[00:51:02] I actually think they were a team that could screen consolidation trade.
[00:51:05] We talked about it in previous pods,
[00:52:04] Really what it comes down to is I don't think there was anything of
[00:52:09] note on the market for them to actually get and
[00:52:17] I know you'll say well, well Kyle Kuzma and Pascal Ciaco. Well problem is is that
[00:52:23] Pascal somehow some way whatever conversation went down with going to apologize for it. I'm a Laker fan. I've been one since I was like six, seven years old. I'm now 51 years of age. So sue me. The one thing that I will say is that I really like that they didn't million dollars on the table. I Do not believe that now you could you could scare me with Philadelphia And that they would be able to
[00:55:03] Accommodate LeBron and his salary demands
[00:56:04] and then the other thing is Spencer did want to eat the pickup that they got I
[00:56:06] Mean honestly good pickup
[00:56:09] You didn't give anything for him
[00:56:17] You know you're in a situation where you can give good minutes off the bench if you're gonna go with Reeves and
[00:56:20] Russell and you're starting lineup
[00:56:26] Here's another guy who can play alongside those guys either one of them is amazing. Also, this freed more space and time for now their first round pick. Taylor Hendrix who hasn't gotten a lot of playing time. Otaya Baji being out. This means that Keontae George and the rest of the guards
[00:57:42] can have a little easier maneuverability he's a steady veteran hand that this team needs. Well, I would tend to disagree with that for one reason only. You got Anthony Simons, who is coming into his own.
[00:59:01] And then you have Scoot Henderson, who you drafted third overall, and you have Shade So after years and years and years of not doing anything at the trade deadline, their model was like we like to do our business in the off season, have a whole year with the person that we're bringing in or whatever. So last year, they traded Yaka Pertle at the deadline,
[01:00:20] got a first run pick. This year, they trade Doug Boonholzer who had been the coach who had won a championship with them had devised
[01:01:41] a system that led them to that championship a couple years back.
[01:01:47] He gets ousted. We're not going to get into the whole Asian Griffin of it all because I want to focus on Doc. So you know what happens? All hell breaks loose. And now 50 plus games into the season. The franchise has to decide to go out and house Asian Griffin and bring in Doc Rivers.
[01:04:05] time to kind of recreate a training camp. Not just the training camp with putting the system in, it's really the time where you as a coach can set expectations for said guy.
[01:04:19] Because remember, the one thing that we do know about sports is this.
[01:04:25] Everyone will be treated fairly. my hashtag fear the dear family. What is a successful season for the Bucks this year? Knowing all of what you know, knowing all of the stuff that started in know about Atlanta. They have shown some patients with Queen of Snyder because it didn't go well. We know some of the issues that are going on now. We talked about it to John Tom Murray, Trey Young, how it doesn't work, right?
[01:07:01] So he's given even more runway in his situation,
[01:08:04] That you need between the stars whether you have that trust in the codes that
[01:08:06] He's doing everything in his power
[01:08:11] To allow those guys to be as successful as possible
[01:08:20] All right, man, that is it for the show again, I would just want to tell you my appreciation for
[01:08:23] all our loyal listeners and in the people that
[01:08:26] support on
