[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So what we're going to do today is we're going to look at some of the contenders for

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: What Vegas is is the

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Front runners for the NBA rookie of the year

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to break these guys down

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of these guys we've already gone over

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Most of them actually every last one of these guys we've gone over

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And then

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_00]: This is not our pick

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: We will give that to you like the night before

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Oakening night of the NBA

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: But these are good little precursors to what could be going on with us

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: We do take some of this stuff into consideration

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But we might have an outside pick you never know

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Might be somebody I really love there might be a death main pain

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: In this

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: All right, so the first person up and he is actually favorite to win this

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Is Zach Edy of the Memphis Grizzlies and Zach Edy is 7 for 4

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: He's 300 pounds and he's basically replacing what Stephen Adams was to the Memphis Grizzlies

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And before it was Stephen Adams is it was Jonas Valentinus

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: They've always had some kind of big plotting center in the middle

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's a style preference or whatever the case may be

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But Zach Edy has a really good job here set bone crushing screens

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Get a ton of rebound block shots and look real mean

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: So if he can do that he's on play a lot one

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And two, yeah he might go ahead and win a work of the year if that is the case

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's really a typical type guy that Memphis goes for

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And with all the advent of centers being able to have all this agility and be able to get out to the short corners on the three

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And we want switchability with all five positions

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: It's real funny that Memphis said he's super big

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_00]: He's super strong and now he's a mismatched for us so have fun

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I like the way they've zag when everybody was digging

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_00]: A couple other things is that Edy average at double and four blocks in his summer league debut

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Establishing himself as one of clear, wicked year favorites

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Another guy that had a really good summer league and somebody that we can sing him with praises here on the podcast

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Is read shepherd or the Houston rockets and he's second on this list

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Read shepherd shooting and hustle will earn him serious minutes in Houston rotations says one NBA executive

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Shepherd posted 20 point 20 points per game and five assists and he wrapped up 11 steals in his summer league

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Stent and he was first team all summer league

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Now the problem with re-cheper and we talked about it extensively through the draft process and after is that he is six foot two

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to tell you right now, I could care less whether he's six foot two or not this dude can shoot

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And not only can he shoot he got some sauce to his gang

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: He got some snatch back, he has a durable

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Situation to him so he's not show normal what you want to call it gym rat or I know his father was a coach or whatever case and being played for the University of Kentucky

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: But this is not your A typical guy, what you actually really think of this guy really has an edge to his game he has a flare

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: He has a style and I think that the people outside of Houston

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: When they get to see re-shepered on the court they go understand one I'm trying to talk about

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Another guy on this list is Zacharray, Rizus Shea of the Atlanta Hawks

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Rizus Shea has all the tools to get a lead to a player he's plugging play says an international scout

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_00]: But this is the one thing that I wonder with Rizus Shea will he get the opportunity

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Johnson is there he's fully entrenched

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: What's gonna happen with the second four squad will they go ahead and put Rizus Shea in there to go ahead and play that small forward position

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Now when he was in France and we talked about extensively here on the pot, but

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot more to his game than what we saw in France

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: There are some more offense to creativity that I'm going to tell

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: We saw a little bit of it in some or not a lot of it

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: It's something that he will definitely have to develop over time

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're gonna tell me we're gonna go ahead and stand him in the corner and shoot three easy play defense

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna play him like 28 minutes a game

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Then he's gonna have a shot at Rookie of the Year this year

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Now a guy that I want people to keep their eyes on is now

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Carlton, Carrington other Washington wizards

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Now he's not as he wasn't a lottery pick

[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't one of these guys that was top five or anything like that

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Carlton, Carrington, one of those guys that can fit into a system

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: He has some provottole to him and he thinks he is probably a lot better than what other think of him

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: He might get a chance of playing now if you're telling me that you're moving Jordan pull to the two guard position

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter anyway, they're not really trying to win games

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're saying that you want to groom Carrington for the point guard position specifically

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm all in on this

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Carrington average 13.8 points a game for point one assists in his lone collegiate year at the University of Pittsburgh

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Carrington might care to might just wave his magic on

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And we come Washington's Harry Driggler on the court

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Bad joke

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Terrible

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_00]: But the one thing he can do

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_00]: is he can hopefully

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Race the memory what we saw with Jordan pull

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Last year it was terrible

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00]: So our hopes is that our guy above Carrington gets a lot of time up in Washington

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And we hope that he gets the opportunity to develop

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And I really like this game at Pittsburgh

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm glad that he's got this opportunity with the Washington Wester's because hey they just need talent at this point

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We're just being real

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Washington needs talent

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And welcome to the NBA draft of 2025

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Which we'll probably be talking about more later on this week so stay tuned for that

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Alright the last guy that I want to talk about is Matt is Bouselis and that is the Lithy wedding and kid from

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_00]: He was the G league and night he went to the Chicago Bulls

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: He looks like he's going to get a lot of time

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Bouselis has impressed and camp and could be a major part of Chicago youth movement says one of the bulls insiders

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Now he averaged 14.1 points again and 5.7 rebounds in the G league last year

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is Bouselis is the shooting now the shooting comes around

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see a player that is going to flourish

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_00]: He does have some offensive creativity

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He has some toughness

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He wields stick his face in there and rebound

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And get steals and what have you

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It will all come down to the 30.1 shooting

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And case closed

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't happen necessarily this year

[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_00]: But we would love to see some improvement

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: If he can just get to 33.34% this year

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And then build from there

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be excellent

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: But those are the guys that are

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: What Vegas are thinking about as your guys that have outside shot at winning

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Rookie of the Year now we would have no idea until we start seeing how

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of these roster shake out obviously

[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_00]: People can get off to fast starts

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember when we were in December of last year

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a two, it was a two horse race

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It was win by Yamaha and Chet

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Keep in mind things changed throughout the year

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And momentum changes and opportunity changes

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We might have a robust list right now but at the end of it is going to come down to opportunity

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to come down to what you're able to contribute on the court

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And then positively to the team success

[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And then does your team and does your coach trust you

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And is a moment too big or not too late for you

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Those are going to be the reasons for whoever wins the NBA Rookie of the Year

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, now we talk about all the time how hard it is for NBA franchises

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: To pull on the same side of the road you got your president or GM and they're thinking three four years ahead

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And then you have your coach and he's thinking about this year

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Because if I have like crap gear this year, I'm getting fired. That's how coach things

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Then you have your player development guys or your scalts who maybe was really in on your draft pick

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're wondering why he does he's not getting the time that he thought he deserved

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe the analytics department is going like he would definitely help our model show that he would help

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe the coaches just completely disinterested in that situation because if he can't

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Keep in his head certain terminology or defensive principles he's probably not going to play

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_00]: These are all things that were

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Bandied about last year when we talked about Jonathan Kaminga and now we get to this year and I asked a question again

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Are we now as Steve Kerr

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Given Jonathan Kaminga

[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_00]: What his role is for 2024

[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_00]: 2025

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Keep in mind also if they don't give him that number two role, he's going to be extremely salty and he's going like I said he's going for that rookie extension

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I think they've built it this honestly and I don't know if it was the transfer from Bob Myers to the Mike Denley, be Jr. and the young Laker Kirk Leaker

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But I do know this is that somebody needs to get on the same page with this guy

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We're probably going to see a year where Edger Rick wagons is the number two option and share any with Kaminga

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And then Steve Kerr likes a certain brand of basketball

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_00]: He likes the beautiful game, he likes the ball movement, the people movement

[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_00]: He wants to put your defense in a state of chaos or a state of just like your in-parallel

[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And the only way to do that is to how people moving and understanding the synergy of the system

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And John the Kaminga is like, yo I'm a bucket, I can just go get it myself

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Kevin Durant

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Now he's not like Kevin Durant, I'm just saying the situation is like Kevin Durant

[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So my wonder is how is going to stay going ahead of this?
