[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Jaren Jackson Jr. This is a quote from Taylor Jenkins the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: He says we're not sure of the timeline, but Jaren's impact on our defense is irreplaceable

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be cautious to ensure he's healthy for the long haul now

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Jaren Jackson Jr.

[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_00]: This injury it's it's a game changer for them. You think that you're gonna go in with this

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: 7 foot 4 and this almost 7 foot like crazy wingspan

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Power forward and now you're looking at a situation where

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: He could miss a good 15 to 18 games at the start of the season

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to scare Memphis Grizzlies fans, but if you look at what

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a soft tissue injury anytime you deal with a soft tissue injury

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The chances of re-injuring that same area or the surrounding area is multiplied

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_00]: So they have to take it cautious. If you want them healthy at the end of the year

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna definitely have to air on the side of caution

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Now

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: What does that mean?

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_00]: two things first of all

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: He's right. You can't replace the Jaren Jackson Jr.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Experience at all. No, this is a reigning defensive player of the year

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy who had three blocks per game last season and he was pivotal to Memphis's defense

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Here's the other thing too

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: When you lose somebody like Jaren Jackson Jr. You also lose a floor spacer which changes the calculus of the team

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Clark all be it up very good backup and

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Will be very serviceable in the role that he's given

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: But I was looking for Memphis to get off to a really hot start

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if we can temper the expectations a little bit in Memphis now

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Memphis Grizzlies the fans of the Memphis Grizzlies

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Chris Vernon who does the

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Freeing post game shows of the Memphis Grizzlies

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Good dude. Love him. He has high expectations for the Grizzlies this year. I

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Believe before this injury. I had very high

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Expectations of the Grizzlies this year it doesn't

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't change it completely what it does it changes it in the way of

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Continuity, you know, it's gonna take time to build the continuity between Zach Eadie Jaren Jackson

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Who goes where what's the assignment how it works things of that nature?

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was looking forward to seeing that early part of the season and seeing how those two behemoths

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But control the paint

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But now we're gonna have a different situation

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: So I wonder how Eadie in his effectiveness will be early on in the season

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Because of the floor spacing and maybe the issue of floor spacing

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So early on this is what we're looking at with the Memphis Grizzlies

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_00]: This is something that you should lock in on as somebody who watches them on a day-to-day basis

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: But these are the things that are going through my head at this present time

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Now

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: We move on to one of our favorites our longtime favorites here and that is Kawhi Leonard

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we did speak about him in the previous pie, but I wanted to get this quote out there on his knee management

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't been able to finish playoff runs. So making sure I stay healthy for those important moments is key

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But what does this mean?

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_00]: What what strategy?

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Did anybody use a follow-up question to ask the question what strategies are you using to make sure that you are in

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: optimal health come playoff time obviously you cannot guard against the

[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Fluky player right now falling into his knee or

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_00]: a defender bumping knees with Kawhi or anything like that you or somebody

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Stepping on his ankle or he twists in his ankle or whatever the case may be you cannot guard for those things

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_00]: but as far as the actual

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Regiment that he is going to

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Do this year to make sure that he's ready and his body is fully ready

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: To ramp up for the playoffs now. He's also in a competitive West and they also lost Paul George

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: So how many games do you think Kawhi Leonard thinks?

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: He can play in and then have the clippers in a competitive spot where they can make a real serious run in the playoffs. Yeah

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I want people to hit me on X and let me know about that

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Now here's the thing that I will say

[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Due to this situation due to what we talked about in

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: The last part in regards to six years of this we run into the same problem every single year and

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we have just gotten to the point that

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever happened in San Antonio and then whatever happened or transpired in Toronto

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Has scarred this man and he's never going to be exactly the same again

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: That might just be it. We'll have stretches where it will look great and

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Then he'll disappear

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that is the legacy and what we're going to be seeing forward with Kawhi Leonard and

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, that's not gonna be enough for the clippers this year and who owns their pick. Oh

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_00]: The team that's probably gonna finish number one in the conference your Oklahoma City Thunder

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: 2025 folks the draft that we're all

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Clamoring for the Cooper flag draft the ace Bailey draft the Nolan triori draft the VJ edge comb draft the clippers

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Who lost Paul George and remember?

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: That was a contract dispute. That was a basically we don't

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know about Kawhi

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So should we spend this money on Paul George now with that calculus

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oklahoma City Thunder get the right to swap the pick if for some reason the Los Angeles clippers finished beneath them

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Kawhi Leonard's running mate later on in the podcast because he has something very interesting to say and I think that it bears mentioning
