[00:00:13] Good Sunday morning to you all. Front Runner Podcast Collective is on the air and The reason why we are coming to you at 1 44 Pacific Standard Time Sunday morning is because we got news not just any news
[00:00:33] But it's the news that we've been waiting for in Los Angeles and we will get to that in a little bit But before we get there You know what we have to talk about we have to talk about the socials x at front runner PC also
[00:00:50] Can you get with the producers? Who are getting some of this information to me in timely fashion and that is at Raya underscore Funch FR PC They got some cool stuff going on over there as well. So check them out
[00:01:09] The other thing is go to the YouTube page front runner podcast collective Great stuff on there. We're gonna be putting more stuff on there in the next couple days in regards to all the free agency and some of the trades they've gone on and
[00:01:27] I have something behind the scenes things that shouldn't slip into those Little clips or what have you so be prepared for those as well And then the last thing that we always talk about is be a friend tell a friend movement
[00:01:42] It's a lifestyle now, but record numbers in June July we off to a hot start and hopefully we can keep it up and The reason why we can keep it up is because you guys are remembering to download the podcast
[00:01:58] You're remembering to tell your friends like yo, did you did you check out what Vince said on the last part about? so and so Thank you guys very much for that
[00:02:09] But we need to keep that momentum up get the numbers up build the community because that's what it's all about It's about sharing this this cool experience that we that we get to do and get excited about guys in shorts
[00:02:26] Throwing a ball in a hoop, but we love it. So that's what we do, right? Alright, so with all that being said Let's get to the pot got a lot of news to get to the first thing that we are gonna get to is
[00:02:41] That the Sacramento Kings who last year This podcast was critical of resigning everybody that they did Not because of the fact that The players that they had were were not good enough for what have you it was more because we thought that was a potential
[00:03:00] To use that those those assets that money towards other free agents for some reason that did not work last year But this year Sacramento Said we will not strike out and they sure didn't
[00:03:16] Where the Lakers struck out on on this guy Domar DeRozan the kid from Coffden who went to USC 15 year veteran in the league He did a sign and trade with the Chicago Bulls. He goes to the Sacramento Kings in a three team deal
[00:03:35] So this is how it breaks down Sacramento receives Domar DeRozan in a sign and trade three years 74 million dollars San Antonio Spurs receive Harrison Barnes from Sacramento and then San Antonio since Chris Duarte the former first round pick from Indiana
[00:03:56] I want to say about four years back. He goes to the Chicago Bulls along with two second round picks in cash Considerations that is the details on the trade per Shams per world Per our guy Jake Fisher
[00:04:18] We don't give our guy Jake Fisher some love on this pod because he does young men's work and we appreciate all that He does breaking some of these deals down now Why this deal and why? This situation I can tell you honestly the Kevin Herder situation in Sacramento
[00:04:42] Just hasn't seemed to work Now as much as I love Kevin Herder and what he was doing in Atlanta. It has not seemed to translate in Sacramento as much as I thought it would I really I thought it would because when you have somebody like
[00:05:01] Damontes of wellness who is a Tremendous offensive hug at that nail. I thought it would give Kevin Herder a lot of freedom But when you stick Damar to Rosen in this lineup alongside a deer in Fox alongside a Keegan Murray and Damontes of wellness
[00:05:25] Your offense is exponentially better Now you're shooting that might leave something to be desired. So Let's see How it all works for Sacramento and now that we are done with We're not done with free agency what we're mostly done all the big names basically assigned
[00:05:46] What we'll start doing is we'll start going through the teams one by one going over their offseason going over their draft and Kind of going over the overall front office and what we see and what have you and we're gonna start that
[00:06:02] Situation next week. We will start it This upcoming week so Monday Wednesday and Friday will have pods I'm trying to get some stuff done I think we have Charlotte locked in
[00:06:13] For Wednesday, so I have somebody locked in for that. I'm trying to lock in somebody for Golden State hopefully on Wednesday as well, but we'll be getting you those those franchise focuses as The offseason continues to roll on so but getting back to this specific trade Sacramento
[00:06:37] You get another guy who can shoot pass and dribble One of the things that we saw in the NBA finals and one of the things that I think Will become a recurring theme as we start to move along into this new age of basketball is
[00:06:54] the ability to have Multiple guys on the court that can all pass dribble and shoot now obviously if you can have multiple guys who are Real visionaries when it comes to the passing in the creation for others It'll make your team exponentially better or if they are so
[00:07:18] Such a serious threat to score that they command so much gravity That that might also be a situation where you could really make some hay if you have multiple ball handlers and multiple shooters on the court
[00:07:31] And I think Sacramento that's what they did here. They looked at Darren Fox They saw they had a deficiency at the shooting guard position. They tried to fill it with Was a Keon Ellis Play late last year when the herder got hurt this also slides
[00:07:51] Malik muck back into the role that he's more comfortable in which is a six-man role that high Volume shooter coming off the bench. Just go ahead and get microwave hot and do your thing the deal Might not be
[00:08:08] you might go well, he's 35 how does it all work out and where does this put Sacramento in like the You know, I mean if you want to talk about the Ashland of the West I mean
[00:08:23] You know until this is all over until we really see these rosters finalized and obviously we're not gonna see that until February of next year It's gonna be real hard to kind of give you some sort of indication of where they are
[00:08:37] This is what I will say about them there is one situation with the Kings that still needs to be fixed and That is the inside presence as much as we Love the Montes of wellness on this podcast for the amount of effort
[00:08:55] he really extracts everything out of his Domontes Wallace and To see him be in this situation where you got all these pieces around you is very very exciting They still don't have enough rim protection to be a viable championship contender
[00:09:16] That is something that is a red flag now. Does this make them better? Does this make them a team that could buy for that upper? Those upper slots in the Western Conference
[00:09:31] No doubt because the one thing that you know that Mike Brown will bring in it still in that team is a sense of urgency I think Darren Fox who turned down a Extension this past season he's on a mission to be a all NBA player
[00:09:51] He would be ready for the supermax That's what he's going for so expect a Very good season out of Darren Fox. So if he stays healthy You know, let's make sure you know health Fortunateness is a good thing to have Well getting back to our guy Demar DeRozan
[00:10:13] We said he's a 15 year vet this definitely helps this roster You you got one more guy who can look Down the barrel of pressure and laugh at it because he's seen it all He's a six time all-star Demar DeRozan His career averages are 21.2 points a game
[00:10:37] 4.4 rebounds a game and 4.1 assists a game in a steal a game But here's the thing that I want to kind of express to you This is why I'm kind of excited about this deal for Sacramento over the past three seasons
[00:10:52] So we've talked about Demar's age and where he's kind of closer to the end than he is to the beginning But you can't tell me by the numbers Because the numbers don't indicate that
[00:11:05] He has upped his scoring by three points his 24 points game scorer now over the last three years His rebounds has basically stayed the same 4.3 over the last three years, but it's assists have jumped up Significantly since he's going to Chicago
[00:11:24] He's gone to a 5.3 assists a game and still also averaging the steal a game as well You're getting somebody who might be one of those I put Joe Johnson in this category. It's funny
[00:11:40] I'm probably gonna name another Johnson as well, but there was a guy by the name of Eddie Johnson He played a long time and it was a prolific scorer for a long period of time Jamal Crawford fits this bill very nicely
[00:11:56] You know his last game of his career. He dropped 50 you know Lou Williams was another guy who had longevity in the league and scored at a real high clip, but the difference with DeRozan is
[00:12:14] DeRozan is an additive scorer and no shade to the guys that we just talked about But DeRozan puts a pressure on the paint that those guys do not Jamal Crawford could but Damar DeRozan is Intentional about his paint touches. He made purposeful paint touches all the time
[00:12:39] And he's gonna be about six and a half free throw attempts a game for the Sacramento Kings Which is always good because now you got Damata Savonis who can get people in foul trouble
[00:12:52] You have De'Aaron Fox who can get people in foul trouble and you add another guy who has that capability Capability along with Malik Monk as well. So for me, this is great deal Harrison Barnes You're getting better, you know, no, no, no shade to Harrison Barnes whatsoever
[00:13:14] And here's the thing. He will fit his role in San Antonio very well another good vet To bring in another high character guy to bring in To surround that youth in San Antonio. So so far for the San Antonio Spurs. Yes, I saw
[00:13:37] People talking about Trey Young to San Antonio. I'm gonna tell you right now. I Understand your 2k Fascination with making San Antonio a championship team next year But I will tell you that I believe that Trey Young would have stunted the development of Victor Wimbayama
[00:13:58] And there was no way in hell that great popovich Brian Wright and the Brain trust over in San Antonio was gonna allow that to happen So albeit Trey Young great lob thrower
[00:14:18] Prolific outside shooter so created spacing for Victor Wimbayama. I definitely understand the vision that everybody saw there but at the end of the day what I want you to kind of look at when you are starting to
[00:14:33] Romanticize about these trades and put them together on the ESPN trade machine or fanspo or sport or spot track or whatever you use for these For these imaginary trades is Let's throw a little logic in there
[00:14:54] No offense to anybody, but let's throw a little logic in there and let's think about some team-building aspects and also You know You get you get a great source here right you get a great source here
[00:15:09] We're front-runner podcast collective and I'm gonna try to say this as succinctly as I possibly can I've said in the past that I'm not a true true fan of Trey Young. I think there's incredible talent there I think that he is No pretty
[00:15:29] Cavalier about his defense and he doesn't doesn't want to be better at it Because I think if he was just apply his effort he'll never be a really good defender
[00:15:42] But the effort should be there and then the other thing with Trey Young is that we've talked about time of time again Trey getting off the ball and So far in his tenure and in Atlanta and the multiple coaches that he's had he has not really shown a
[00:16:01] a Willingness in a real like I'm gonna give this a real try to allow Others to touch a ball and make them feel part of the team and a part of the offense So again Chris Paul going to San Antonio
[00:16:22] Harrison Barnes going to San Antonio all of a sudden you look at the San Antonio Spurs and you say hey Alright now we got Devin to sell now we can stick, you know, Kelden Johnson made me on the bench Can you can you ask for better mentors?
[00:16:42] For Wayne Bayama and for Stefan Castle then Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes Both guys long time pros both guys Good team guys Both guys are what I would consider non ego guys
[00:17:01] And I know that sounds hard to believe when you talk about Chris Paul and all that he's accomplished in this league But I take you back to OKC when he went from Houston to OKC That team had no shot at winning
[00:17:18] Anything and he got them to the playoffs and he taught a young Shay Gildes Alexander How to be a pro and look at Shay Gildes Alexander now He is a MVP candidate and that year of instruction that
[00:17:38] SGA had he talks about it in great detail and a lot of various Interviews and he said it was informative to him and he learned a lot from Chris Paul So I'm thinking the same thing is gonna go on at San Antonio. Yes
[00:17:54] San Antonio don't worry about Chris Paul playing 70 plus games. Don't worry about Chris Paul Putting up 18 points a game do not worry about Chris Paul Um, maybe disappearing in four quarters don't worry about that he's gonna bring up professionalism To your team
[00:18:18] Not because San Antonio has a problem with professionalism, but you got to be able to Illustrate it on the court and They just hadn't had enough guys to do that
[00:18:31] And I think with Harrison Barnes and also Chris Paul you get two guys that can definitely set that lineup and also get everybody in the right spots and you're gonna have a an Accountability to detail that you haven't seen
[00:18:48] With the San Antonio Spurs maybe over the last couple years. So that is that part of the trade now, Chicago Let's get to it I Again obviously has come in Chicago. I think they're doing everything in their power to
[00:19:06] Get to a point where they can start tearing it down. I know they made several offers To send Zach Levine to various locations Now I will say this It was reporting out there
[00:19:23] That Chicago had offered a first-round pick to some teams I can tell you from what I have heard They have not offered a first-round pick so I don't know if that was wishful thinking on the other teams parts or or
[00:19:42] It was just something that they wanted to have it planted out in the media that Chicago was this desperate but from all indications from people that I talked to They have not Offered a first-round pick in the deal for Levine, so not saying that
[00:20:04] You're gonna trade him without that but I think right now The word is Zach Levine is Available well, we're not also throwing in a first-round pick for it. So there it is there But I do believe that we are on the road on the road to Tangville
[00:20:25] with the Chicago Bulls finally and You know a It's got to hurt it's got to hurt but I think Chicago the fans know That this is the way to get better being middle of the road is never a good place to be and
[00:20:48] There's gonna be a fan base that I talk about later in this podcast that is there and Doesn't know that they're there. So stay tuned for that So we got through the Demar DeRozan situation great deal for Sacramento
[00:21:05] We talked about what San Antonio got we talked about what Chicago got now Let's get on to a couple more signings that we really need to get on Caleb Martin the former he signs a four-year deal with the 76ers now 76ers had had a busy offseason
[00:21:26] Paul George is there They swung the deal Got Paul George there I like the subsequent deals after moving certain people pieces out putting pieces in I like the the drumming situation Paul Reed is now gone
[00:21:53] You know, they did they just made some really expert type deals here and even the bloody heel deal was Really nice I liked it, you know, they weren't gonna need them for what they were trying to do It was able to relieve some cap situations for them
[00:22:13] No problem there. Oh There's one other point that I wanted to make for Sacramento hands about Demar DeRozan and I would definitely want to bring this up because I don't want to be derelict in my duty Demar DeRozan is old school in more ways than one
[00:22:34] Keeping my folks Demar DeRozan plays like 75 plus games like every year He doesn't miss games Very rare that he's hurt so You got a stud in Sacramento All right. So we were talking about the Caleb Martin thing 76ers. Here's the one thing I will say about Miami
[00:23:00] Free agents and everybody knows this I think there's some outliers out there But for the most part when a guy leaves the heat and goes to another organization They tend to revert to whatever they were before
[00:23:19] We are we praise Caleb Martin for not last year's plus but two years ago when he went off He just went off Against Boston and what have you and He's a big player Solid role player. I like the money that he's on 8 million a year. You can't
[00:23:42] You know, you can't be mad at that especially for somebody who's gonna be like your Your second guy off the bench or whatever the case may be he's gonna provide you good defense Good rebounding and spacing so you can't really go wrong there, but Philadelphia
[00:24:01] Amazing offseason so far I love what they've done and they made the East competitive and they put pressure on Boston and that's what you got to do you got to put pressure on them and
[00:24:14] And I think this does that. I still did not like that indeed played in the playoffs For a guy who has had a myriad of injuries That was reckless Then now I know you'll tell me hey the doctor said it was okay
[00:24:34] The medical staff was okay with it. He was okay with it. He wanted to play I still think it was reckless, especially Knowing that this is literally the intent you had Before the season ended you knew you were doing this
[00:24:54] You knew this was the year this offseason you planned for it You got all of the cat room. He made the hard trade of trading James Harden for like a bag of peanuts and role players You did the hard thing
[00:25:13] Just wish you would have just allowed and be to continue to heal and not play in that playoff series but It's all water under the bridge. So we're gonna move on to the next next reagent situation Well, ladies and gentlemen Let's talk about the Pistons real quick
[00:25:35] We we usually clown the Pistons and we actually gonna do a little bit of that right now What it's it's kind of in a fun way though So the Pistons have decided that spacing and shooting are necessary items to have on a NBA roster
[00:25:50] so here the signing so far for the Detroit Pistons Simone Fantecae today signed for two years and 16 million dollars now remember Simone Fantecae signed last year late last year and had a really positive influence on the team and
[00:26:11] you know, they start playing better towards the end of the year once K got his feet underneath him and They probably looked at Monty Williams and said you're not gonna be here long anyway
[00:26:23] So we're gonna do what we need to do. So but Simone Fantecae they resigned him good little deal now Listen to the rest of the signings that Detroit sign So they signed Malik Beasley former Laker Timberwolves Denver Nuggets some other stuff
[00:26:48] so Malik Beasley gets signed for one year eight million and Then they sign Tobias Harris for two years 32 that are two years. No, that was two years 32 two years um 52 right? Yeah 52. So you got 26 year and Everybody was like wow Tobias here has got 26 year now
[00:27:14] They overpaid for Tobias Harris for two reasons one They weren't gonna get him for what he was actually worth like he probably would have got 18 on Like let's say he went to Denver or he went to The heat or somebody like that. They would have signed for
[00:27:35] somewhere in the 16 to 18 range, but because Detroit and The awful season that they had the long season that they had last year He sides there he immediately provides some shooting that they desperately need and also as
[00:27:55] much as he disappeared with Philadelphia as much as we were frustrated with the Amount of production that he was put out making 40 million dollars. I Think a low pressure situation for Tobias Harris now albeit that 26 million dollar a
[00:28:16] Price tag little high and if he does have a pretty good year, it's gonna be hard to trade in the NBA trade deadline But hey, you do get somebody who has some veteran leadership some presence and does
[00:28:33] Put some sort of like thought process in the defense like hey It's twice out is to fire as Harris is out here. We need to at least guard you right? And then they also got Tim Hardaway jr. In a draft day trade
[00:28:50] that's st. Quentin Grimes back to Dallas and Tim Hardaway jr. To Detroit so they sign four guys. Well three guys and re-signed Fontagio, but what this is telling you is that There shouldn't be a lineup with Detroit next year without two guys on the court
[00:29:11] That do have a reputation of shooting the ball from three-point land at a pretty decent rate now whatever you get from Kate Cunningham and J-9v and the maturation process of Jalen Durin and the other guys and A sewer Thompson cannot shoot 18% from three
[00:29:34] This next season now he does have some insurance buffers built in with Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway jr. But Ours Assure tosses defense is his calling card But that 18% three-point shooting will keep you on the bench so you can't use your calling card so there that is
[00:30:00] Is okay, we're gonna get to one we're gonna get two more things good You know, you know me I'm a big note-taker I do this you I Do this for the public? I do this for you but I
[00:30:19] Want to have a golden state and this all ties into everything that we're talking about today Because the last team that we're gonna talk well Is in direct contrast to what gold state did so gold state started off the week
[00:30:36] Rough right they started off the week losing Clay Thompson long time splash brother four-time champion, right now Clay Thompson for what he was making last year For what he was For what he is now To the gold state warriors He actually was an expendable piece so
[00:31:09] Gonna be real hard for gold state fans to hear this now. I'm gonna have somebody on the podcast Um and we're gonna get into the holes all season and whatever but purely on personnel
[00:31:23] We just talked about it. You got to have more guys in the you gotta have more guys on your team that can pass dribble and shoot you gotta have those guys and Clay Thompson is a spot-up shooter he's not defender that he once was and
[00:31:43] If the shots not fall in well what what value does clay have and on a team that was devoid of offensive punch because of what Wiggins Struggles had turned in to be for like the last year and a half
[00:31:59] It just made sense for these moves to take place So early in I think in the first podcast we had last week on Monday Then we talked about this D Anthony Melton signed a mid-level exception with the gold state warriors for 12.8 then they
[00:32:19] Did a sign trade with Minnesota because they were having cap issues They signed Kyle Anderson to three years 27 million dollars so nine a year basically and Then they did a signing trade for Buddy healed from the 76ers
[00:32:40] And that is it's a three-year deal, but it's really a two-year deal With the way though. It's actually a four. Okay. Hold on. Let me kind of Okay, it's a it's a three-year deal, but really it isn't so it's a two-year deal
[00:32:58] 18 million dollars guarantee the third year is a partial guarantee of three million dollars So the whole contract is twenty seven million dollars over The three years so it's the same contract is Kyle Anderson, but with Buddy healed
[00:33:14] They did a partial guarantee of the third year. So they can do a buyout As we get closer to the end of that contract nice little Little job by their account people and and their general in their player personnel
[00:33:31] And again, we're gonna get more into golden state but what I'm saying about this situation is That they didn't panic. I have been a A person who's been hard on Mike Dunleavy, Jr. And Kurt Laker for
[00:33:48] You know, hey, what are you gonna do with Steph Curry in his? You know Weaning prime years, right and I'm not saying that any of this is gonna help them get to the promised land now There is a rumor out there and the rumor is true
[00:34:06] They are going very hard for Lord of the Rings Is true they are going very hard for lorry marketing the all-star forward seven footer from Utah now Do they have enough to get them? They have a lot of pit
[00:34:23] They do have some assets to give them. So this is a realistic situation. So keep it locked here with us Into next week. We will be bringing you podcasts on Monday Wednesday and Friday So
[00:34:38] Keeping locked now. Sometimes I'll move the Friday podcast just if I think there's news that's gonna happen Or whatever like we did this week. We're dropping the Friday pie on Sunday, you know but we did this for the reason and the reason was because of
[00:34:58] These type of deals that just went on because there was something at the end that we're gonna get to I'll Promise you it's going to pay off. We got one other team to talk about and
[00:35:10] We're gonna talk about it in a way where we just hope this young man really really Embraces this this opportunity and what I want to do right now is I want to talk about the signing of Miles bridges to the Charlotte Hornets now Miles bridges is a
[00:35:30] Extremely talented young wing this dude is is big time He has some off-the-court issues We are not going to Sugarcoat it It's well documented. There was a no contest to a felony domestic violence charge that was then dropped down to
[00:35:57] A probation and he got three years of probation or what have you so serious charges on Miles bridges, I will tell you I believe That it affected his market There were teams that wanted to go out to him but because of you know the
[00:36:19] Optics of all of it and all of what happened they decided not to Take a chance on talent now. I will tell you that Hey, if you have an ownership group or a a fan base that you think won't Support this young man then no don't sign him
[00:36:41] You're right. You should not sign him Charlie on the other hand new ownership group So all this stuff to happen Did not happen under Their ownership their steward of the actual franchise The other thing is that Charles Lee is coming in there as the new head coach
[00:37:04] They have a whole new front office Young minds the guy Frank Brooklyn. I really like him a lot. I think that Miles bridges has a chance and opportunity and I think this is a great deal
[00:37:21] I think this is a great deal. I think this is a great deal for him man. You think about what now Charlotte has right? They got LaMelo ball They're sitting there with Brandon Miller who had an excellent rookie season they got miles bridges and
[00:37:38] Then they got Mark Williams and then they did get guards and stuff like that. So here's the deal Charlotte It's sitting there oh they got oh they got my guy to John salon too Yo, they got wings now They got real wings and
[00:38:01] They gonna be held deal with it and they're gonna be fun to watch so I can't wait. I am hoping that Miles bridges from this situation I Really appreciate the kind of like the fortuitous what bounces that kind of went his way
[00:38:23] You know if this doesn't go right, you know my man could be Out of the league so I'm hoping that with this Being 25 years old averaging 21 points a game seven rebounds a game and three assists I'm a real huge Fan and I just
[00:38:46] Other player now as a person as somebody who is seeing a woman Be abused physically I don't get down with that at all But I also look at this 25 year old man and go hey Don't like the decisions you make that's
[00:39:07] As honest as I possibly can be but for me to say You are not worthy of a second chance Would be disingenuous on my part Knowing what kind of heathen I was when I was an alcoholic out there doing crazy stuff and
[00:39:27] What kind of grace I've been given so I hope that he really takes this opportunity and just grabs it and it allows His talents to really just shine out on the court and we can stay away from all the off-the-court drama
[00:39:44] That has happened over the last couple years. So good signing for Charlotte Good shot good signing for miles bridges. I Like him being in a in a low Low pressurized situation in Charlotte not a lot of eyes and he can just grow and hopefully also
[00:40:07] Whatever counseling and whatever he has gone through through his journey out of the darkness that he was in that He's able to continue to allow that to grow and mature and flourish, you know just without the spotlight on them. So
[00:40:24] Again good deal for Charlotte good deal for miles bridges real happy for both of those parties now I said there was a payoff coming and I will not will not disappoint our hearty hearty lifting us so We talked about teams and making
[00:40:51] You know making trades and making free agent signings and it will have you the one thing that we also talked about and something that JJ reddick said in in In Press conference and also in interviews. He says we got a win on the margins
[00:41:07] We got and I said something about this in a podcast. I want to say last week So if you are new to the program Welcome We are happy to have you aboard
[00:41:21] Hit us up on Twitter at front runner podcast collective and let us know how you heard about us Did your friend tell you did you hear it through through the mantra of be a friend and telephone Because I would like to hear from you
[00:41:38] But what we talked about was when they talk about winning on the margins, you know Little things things that you're not thinking of Things that are like you you think it's the most mundane thing on the planet, but
[00:41:59] These teams do it now for example now. This is not apples to it. This is not apples to apples Okay, but I just want to take you through the mental Gymnastics of the situation so the new york knicks, right? We talked about all their big signings all these
[00:42:17] Incredible guys they have they got mckill bridges and you know You know, they just made their teams just a hell of a hell a lot better Right the Villanova connection is real they resign og and an ovi the new york knicks on draft day
[00:42:39] They drafted a kid out of France his name was Pacam Dottier now Come Dottier six nine He's still 18 years of age Has a lot of growth potential Tilt is definitely not going to play him next year but the reason why I bring up his signing and
[00:43:05] The reason why I bring up calm Dottier Because we will probably not mention him on this podcast Unless he's traded During in the spring during the trade deadline But the reason why we bring them up is because of what the Knicks did So when you get draft picks
[00:43:28] Depending on where they're drafted. They're slotted for a certain dollar amount So the league has it it makes it very easy You know number one pick gets from here to here number two gets here to here Number three and it just goes on and goes on right?
[00:43:47] the Knicks sign Pacam Dottier to eighty percent of what the Rookie scale contract for his slot was and you say well Well, that sounds cheap. And why did they you know why they skip a moment? They did that to help them with
[00:44:10] Luxury tax situations and the reason why they Drafted the kid and they whatever is because of the fact that they had talked to all Before hand and said listen we got real interest in you
[00:44:24] we think that you was a project and probably not gonna get on the court the first year, but We can get you into making some money Right now and if you you know, you might not go drafted or whatever case of NP. He took the guarantee and
[00:44:42] The Knicks saved themselves some Cat relief and you say well Vince this is super boring Why are we talking about a guy who probably won't even step foot on an NBA court this year? Funny you should ask that damn question
[00:45:01] Cuz our last little situation of the night is this And one of the reasons why we didn't have a podcast on Friday and one of the reasons why we didn't have a podcast Yesterday is because I waited for this one situation and one situation only
[00:45:17] Yesterday was the first day that the NBA players could sign their contracts so all of the deals that we heard on July 1st and June 30th and July 2nd and all these days and this person signed and this person signed It really doesn't come Become official until
[00:45:42] Pin meets paper and it gets into the league office and The way you do certain things is Like how it's kind of we numbered Kind of affects how the cap goes well
[00:46:01] The one thing that we've been talking about all week is what are the Lakers going to do? Remember we started off with LeBron saying I will take a pay cut if we can sign players like Klay Thompson
[00:46:16] James Harden and Yonis Valanchunas to the mid-level exception. I will take a 20 million dollar pay cut This didn't happen now People in them in the media saying well those guys weren't gonna sign for that amount of money anyway So it looks like
[00:46:36] You know, it looks like LeBron is just the grandstanding. Are we sure? He meant those specific players or players like that Because I'm kind of thinking his players like that So not necessarily that specific player. It's players who maybe do the same things
[00:47:00] Now we can get into semantics and you could tell me that he really really wanted Klay Thompson He really wanted James Harden to sign for 12.8 12.8 million dollars when James Harden is about that paper and we know for sure That that dude was not gonna sign for 12.8 million dollars
[00:47:21] With that being said LeBron James has now signed his contract And you say well Vince we knew he was gonna sign. Why is this so important? It's important for this reason and this reason only LeBron said he would take a pay cut to help out the Lakers
[00:47:41] Get somebody to slide into that mid-level exception obviously However, you look at it. Look at it grandstanding. You look at it is him trying to help out the team
[00:47:54] Get their ducks in a row and try to get more talent onto this team. However, you want to look at it is on you Until you get to this contract. So LeBron James signs a contract late Sunday night for 101 million 355 thousand dollars and why is that important?
[00:48:22] Because he could have took 104 and he didn't take 104 and you say well what's To two plus two and a half million dollars to LeBron James. Well, probably nothing It kept the Lakers out of the second apron. That's what it did so They knew all week
[00:48:46] That this was gonna be a situation They could have they could have waved and stretched can reddish to get this desired result They could have put a Protection on the second round pick and Trade it Can reddish they could have done that as well
[00:49:09] They could have done that with any of their minimal contracts couldn't done those two or three things they also could have made a trade where they Sent more players out then getting more click getting players in they could have done that Well, we waited
[00:49:29] Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday it all happened. It all doesn't happen now. I remember being on this podcast saying There's they they got to do something because it's coming up and the reason why I said that is because I didn't understand this one little tweak in
[00:49:45] The CBA, but I talked it over with a cap guy and they told me and they explained it to me that Even if you're over the second apron, you can aggregate players To rid yourself of salary you can take two
[00:49:59] Minimals and like a second round pick for a cap relief. So I was not aware of this Going into yesterday. So my apologies to the audience and I'll try to do better But that is a this an interesting little quirk though
[00:50:18] Is that you could have you still could have kind of finagle your way out of it Finagle your way out of it no doubt, but I still think it's funny that LeBron signed for 101 million 355 thousand. I don't care what people think
[00:50:44] The perception is it said LeBron is doing Palinka's job Now it might not be true this is something they went to him with let him know hey Take a little haircut here, this is gonna help us do this. This is this Whatever it still looks
[00:51:05] like the perception is Is a lot LeBron is running your franchise. It's like he's bailing you out of every situation You're never proactive You're never the one like yo, we're gonna do this this and this I'm not saying you got to tell us all your business
[00:51:23] I'm just saying these Real cryptic You know, we don't know we can pull something off when your entire division Pull some off Gold State Sacramento Phoenix the Clippers Everybody in your division made a trade under the same climate Under the same cba boogeyman
[00:51:57] That you did that you have Rob, so here's what I'm gonna say shots out to WWE superstar Jade Cargill Cuz miss Cargill. I'm going to jack your line for a second and As she used to say when she was actually on AEW Rob Polinka cut the shit
[00:52:29] Dude I Know you trying and I'm not even gonna sit here and say oh He's just sitting back in his palatial estate and doing absolutely nothing. I'm not saying all of that But dog, let me tell you something you can say how hard it is
[00:52:46] You can take say how difficult it is. You can tell me that like Little gremlins are coming in messing up your trades at the last second. You tell me all kinds of stuff, bro What I saw your whole division people in more economic dire straits Then you were
[00:53:08] Golden State for sure Phoenix and the Clippers All may trades So it seems very disingenuous It seems very disingenuous Rob that this is what's going on and that nothing is getting done at all Perception is is that LeBron has been running this franchise since he got there and
[00:53:43] today and with this signing Doesn't change anything at all for me So again LeBron James saves the ass of Rob Palinka We got rules named after the dude You know The reason why we have four-year contracts for second round draft picks That are standard now is because Rob
[00:54:21] Palinka refused to take a little bit of money off the mid-level exception to save money for multiple year contracts, this is the reason why we were in A in a tough situation with Austin Reeves that worked out in our favor
[00:54:40] Phenomenally and then the Max Christie thing could have ended up really bad for us and it didn't But it could have But now the rule is set and it's called the Palinka rule It's called the Palinka rule because he refused to take money off that mid-level exception
[00:54:58] so you can give a More the two-year contract to a second round draft pick. It's called the Palinka rule Now it might not be called that in a rule book but everybody in the NBA calls it that you got to win on the margins and
[00:55:18] Now that the margins are over with times a tick and Rob If you don't pull something off That is Pretty good The heat for your job is going to ratchet up to a level that I don't know if you're gonna be comfortable with in the upcoming months so
[00:55:46] There it is We have done it Re-agency frenzy basically is over but the trades are not because The Lakers got work to do Miami has work to do the brand of E-room trade is still is out there somewhere and
[00:56:06] Brooklyn still has the wings that they're desperately trying to get off of as well because they're trying to cut salary and also tank For next season, so there's still a lot of work to be done But
[00:56:19] Here's the thing. Here's a great part is that I'm going to be here for you to make sure you get all of this information and Hopefully you get it with Kindly fashion white hopefully you get it with with a with a sense of exuberance and
